Bassong...An Option?

It appears sneaky Harry Redknapp has managed to give us an extra option in defence as we approach the first weekend of the Premiership season.

Tottenham's new signing Sebastien Bassong, available on Yahoo for just £5.50million, was due to miss Spurs' first game vs. Liverpool due to a suspension carried over from last season. He was sent off in Newcastle's penultimate game and given a 2 game ban. He served the first of these vs Villa on the last day of last season & it's rumoured the club ensured the registration papers for Bassong went through after the 5pm Saturday deadline, meaning the Premier League will recognise that he missed Newcastle's game vs West Brom on Saturday as the 2nd game of his suspension. Harry Redknapp confirmed yesterday "He's available for Sunday".

EDIT: NOW CONFIRMED BY THE CLUB

Bassong lined up with Ledley King in the heart of the Spurs defence vs Olympiakos yesterday, and he was very impressive. He now presents a good option as he's guarenteed 2 games at a reasonable price.

With King & Bassong available, it also makes Tottenham's defence look far stronger than it was going to 2 weeks ago when it seemed they'd be lining up with the makeshift pairing of Corluka & Huddlestone.

Perhaps Torres isn't quite as good an option as he was previously? Or perhaps those could be my famous last words as he goes on to get a hattrick...

Yeah Bassongs a bargain at that price.. considering he doesn't miss GW2.. Noticed there are some massive bargains on yahoo compared to alot of fantasy sites.. There are also very overpriced players.. that i wouldn't even think of touching without there price tag..

Hi guys - people may well end up with similar teams, but the point of the blog is to assist people by providing information they may not know about! While the Blog Leagues will be fun, my main aim is to help readers finish higher up their own Private Leagues & the Overall Standings.

I have mentioned approximately 40 players as options since I started the blog in June, so that's a a fair old selection pool, plus I expect people to make their own "hunch" picks (just like you have Dave).

I will not be revealing my full team again until after the deadline & I guarentee you plenty of people will have completely different teams...I happen to have my own "hunch" picks up my sleeve :)

I've noticed(with some pride!) a couple of my players have been picked, up it's given me much more confidence with my selections - I'm telling no-one from my leagues about this site!

To be hoest, I was quite comfortable with the idea of Corluka and Hudd as CBs, they're familiar with each other's play with is important in that role, I'm less sure about someone who's been training with the team for less than a fortnight (if it's not clear, yes I'm a fellow Spurs fan). I think that's a bit of a risk, especially against a team like Liverpool and especially considering Spurs-Scouse games last season - I wouldn't be surprised by a nil-nil draw or a 7-4 rout by either side.

By you know, if you want to pick a loser go ahead! ;)
