Injury Update 07/10/09

More injury news as we continue to wait for Yahoo to pull their finger out & update Monday's points...
From the sounds of it, Alberto Aquilani will not be available to make his Liverpool debut before their meeting with Manchester United on October 25.

Though it was reported that he would be on the bench next Saturday when Pool travel to Sunderland, Rafa Benitez has now clarified that "It could be two to three weeks before he is back."

And when he says 'back' we think he actually means 'back in training' because, although the Italian is busy in the gym and swimming pool, Rafa added that "The only thing he is not doing is kick a ball - not yet any way."

If we had to bet on it, we'd probably go for the Carling Cup fixture at Arsenal on October 28 as the first time we'll see Aquilani in action. And, with any luck, his missus in the stands.

Remember that £32m player at Manchester City? Well, we might actually be seeing Robinho in action again sooner than expected.

The Sun says that the Brazilian is 'on course for a shock return - nearly a month ahead of schedule.'

After breaking a bone in his ankle, the forward returned to training on Saturday and has apparently 'targeted the visit of Fulham on October 25 for his return to first-team action.'

The question is how and where he'll get back into the City team...

Very strange stuff in The Daily Mirror about ManYoo's summer signing Gabriel Obertan. The French winger - who the newspaper describes as a defender but we're fairly sure is a winger - has yet to be seen in United colours after joining the club whilst injured and has apparently developed an interest in gardening during his recuperation.

New signing Gabriel Obertan is injured at the moment and can't train and it seems he has developed a keen interest in gardening," Academy director Brian McClair is quoted as saying.

"He's been seen helping an elderly member of the Academy staff by strimming his lawn, pruning his roses and watering his hanging baskets."

What a nice lad!

Meanwhile, the good news for Manchester United fans is that Edwin van der Sar completed 90 minutes in a reserves outing on Tuesday night and will presumably be back in contention for a first-team recall immediately after the international break.

'Van der Sar showed no discomfort during the game at Widnes, comfortably keeping a clean sheet while Italian striker Federico Macheda scored the decisive goal at the other end,' reports The Daily Telegraph.

Rather more eventful was the comeback of Jimmy Bullard in an outing for Hull's reserves against Bolton's. In what was only his second competitive game for the club since his transfer from Fulham, Bullard scored with a long-range effort a few minutes before half-time. He was substituted at half-time but reported no reaction from his injured knee and spoke afterwards of targeting a first-team comeback against his former club at Craven Cottage on October 19.
I'm really hoping Yahoo sort the points situation out tonight...there have been a few occasions in the past when points for single games have not been updated for weeks, even months...lets pray this isn't the case, fingers crossed they'll be updated this afternoon.

Cheers,
AM

YFF: How to annoy 150000 people without even trying. Silly me, I assumed the Chelsea/Liverpool updates would be rolled in with Villa's/ManCity's. Turns out we get a two-phase delay.

Sounds like Robinson should be recuperated in time for Burnley. I hope so. The other bargain keepers have bad match-ups. (Okay, so Myhill only has to go against Fulham, who aren't the same team as last year. Then again, Hull are still Hull, and they'll be away.) I have managed to devise an alternate line-up just in case, but hopefully I won't have to use it (of course, there're still ten days worth of other injuries to go).

How's this, yahoo don't update the points because if they do no one logs in for two weeks. They don't put the points up and we keep checking to see if they are. What do you think? Or am i just paranoid.

You're correct. They are in fact deliberately increasing the traffic to their website so that they can sell these stats to potential advertisers. With the new blogger (Fantisist)the hits have been way down. Remember how busy MDOT used to be last season? Now they lucky if they get 20 comments. I forsee these delays happening quite frequently this season. Matt
