The Blog Cup - 1st Round Results
So finally, after days of agony, Yahoo have updated the points from Monday night's game...
I have analysed the 3 Blog Leagues and can reveal that the weekly cut off point to finish in the Top 200 was a reasonably impressive 95 Points. It shows how strong the leagues are when a score of 94.5 isn't enough to get you in to the Top 200 of the 300 teams.
Below are the full results:
Congratulations to everyone who's through to the next round!! I'm obviously delighted as it means I sneak through (in 180th place) but I realise I was lucky & will need to pull myself together for the 2nd round which is due to take place in Week 12.
Bad luck to anyone who failed to get through, but I am planning on running an additional competition later on in the season (likely to start in January) so you'll have a another chance. This will involve a 4th Blog League being opened as I've had so many requests from people who failed to get a space in the first 3.
So did you make it through? Or were you one of the unlucky one? Please comment below.
Cheers,
AM

I was in 26th place. :) This cup is a great addition and you should get a bunch of compliments for good blog. I´m wondering if you guys would go for Saha/Drogba or Rooney/Diamanti for next weekend?
I had my best week so far with 144,5 and i as in 13 th place.Excellent.
I really consider Diamanti, he gets only better, soon there will be goals.Scores decepoint even without a goal. I'm planning Torres/Diamanti or Adebayor/Defoe.Any thoughts about dropping lennon for cahill or walcott?
AM; i think u should review the ranking system; as there are too many players who have the same score, yet occupy 2 or more places in the top 200 which makes it a bit unfair, i hope u can take notice.Cheers!
@2.33pm - No I don't need to review anything, it's the Top 200 teams who go through.
The only situation where teams with tied scores go through are (for example) if the teams in 200th & 201st are tied on weekly score...in that case all teams tied with a score in the Top 200 go through. If I count all teams with the same weekly score as one position then almost every team would go through, making it pointless.
Sorry to snap but this has taken me hours of my own time to organise so I can do without the critiscm on whether it's "unfair"!
Cheers,
AM
YAY!!
I made it !!!
I'm one hell of a proud manager :D
WHOOPEEEEEEEEEEE!! Dunne,Fabs and Verma saved my a*s sp*nk*ng :P
NOT to 4gt Drogs!! and Bilya!
Congrats Jumper! What's your team name?
AM
Assistant manager did you make it?
AM; I appreciate your effort, but i still don't think that "If you count all teams with the same weekly score as one position then almost every team would go through".Anyway, it's ur blog, ur cup, ur world, i was just sharing a thought.
I don't agree with the last comment in the slightest - I think this is an excellent knockout system and well done to you for running it - I'm glad to be still in but feel I was fortunate with a middling score for the week... bloody fabregas! Cheers AM - excellent blog & great effort, making the whole YFF experience more fun and more worthwhile - top man!
OS
Raul - yes I sneaked through in 180th, well done on your score!
@3.00pm - No offence meant, but I just had a quick run through the results. There were 148 different scores, so the method you suggested would leave every single team in the Top 200...even the guy who got zero ;)
OS - Thanks mate, well done for getting through.
Cheers,
AM
Wow!!!
AM this 95 cut off points show us the extremely good work that you're doing. Everybody is using you're pointers thus everybody is scoring a lot of points. I have 111.5 and I didn't have Fab4, so it's a pretty good week for me.
Keep up the good work.
P.S. Can all of you people please, PLEASE stop complaining for various reasons. You're pissing all of us happy fans of the blog :)
show us->shows us &
you're ->your
Sorry, but after all, I'm from Macedonia :)
I'm happy and consider myself very lucky to have made it through with 98.0 (I'm breathing down your neck, AM :) ). I went up overall, stayed even in the "Fans" group, and dropped a couple in Blog League 2. Just goes to show where the real competition is.
Good thing Yahoo didn't wind up taking the whole two weeks to get the points up (I was beginning to wonder).
I'm in complete agreement with OS: kudos AM!
-Bradley
(Sonic Rovers manager)
Blanco - you meant "that you are doing" so you were correct to use "that you're doing" :)
Bradley - See you also just scraped through mate...can't believe the cut-off was so high!
AM -
I believe "Jumper" is lying!
Coz
Dunne - 17.5
Cesc - 38.5
Verma - 22.5
Drogs - 20.5
Bilya - 10.5
That would be 91.5 points from 5 players!!!!!
And it would be !highly! unlikely to pick all these 5 guys!!
I guess he's bluffing,
but thats just my opinion.
@"Jumper" - Are you that Sam/Noob/Praj-something guy?? I bet my old withered Oein Colfer Books that you ARE him/them. Just a wild guess.
Also,
My team is "Blue 4 Life!"
I shall post an update if i change the team name in the near future.
Rgds.
-Simon-
Lol, just my fantasy luck to miss the cut off by one point. Not that I care, but in fantasy football (American) I always seem to find a way to choke in the playoffs, so I am used to it, lol.
Regardless, great work AM on organizing it and it was fun for the week I was in it. Now I don't have to worry about it (not like the winner of the blog cup is going to get a berth in Champions League) and can just concentrate on blog league 2.
Cheers!
The pain!! 1 point away!
What a week. I'm never picking Arsh over Cesc again.
Congrats AM on making it through. It would've sucked if the blog maker hadn't made it through!
Best of luck to everyone.
Dave. (Los Fantasticos)
great effort AM.thanx..real dilemma for next week.. wanna try sumthin different ^_^
hopefully its pay off..
miLs
yes made it through with 115.5, team name:Man City, very happy as I have not done very well recently and this is my first season playing fantasy football, still learning:)
AM..plz help asap..
I have Gerri and Moko/Rodwell,selling them would fetch me 21(Moko) and 25(Rodwell) ..
So which 2 should i drop Gerri/Moko or Gerri/Rodwell ??
And plz tell me what to do with the remaining pts. if i sell...
I dont know a good combo,
You see.... this is my 1st year and seeing players pick "hunches" i picked guys whom i knew only.. a la EvdS ( i know.. he's injured and will b bak only against Bolton) , Lamps AND Gerri,And Terry,
You understand.
So this is the first time im posting on this blog.
So would you be kind enough to tell me whom to pick??
Thank You
I'm through with 134.5 points...congrats AM on surviving an early round scare!
A request to everyone in the Blog Cup: go to the yellow donate button in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and pledge some cash. If every manager who advanced through the first round of the Cup donated a measly £1, we'd have more than enough money to pay for some prizes to the winning team(s) and for the costs of administering this blog. Just a thought.
Can't wait for the international break to be over. Wonder how serious the Torres injury is...the hits keep on coming for the Reds.
COYS!
Hi Jamie - I'm glad! you've given a prime example of the whole point of The Cup...as a less experienced player you've progressed while some of the players higher up the leagues have been knocked out!
Simon - Don't worry about letting me know if you change your team name...I also have a record of each team's YahooID so if you change your team name I'll still know who you are!
Cheers,
AM
This is to all YFF players, and not meant to pick on any individual.
This is a free forum that a certain individual has given a lot of time to create. It is time well spent, and aids many of us in picking teams by way of invaluable information.
Please try to be considertae by realising this, and enjoy the efforts of the site creator, and input of the other members.
Thanks AM - I got into the next round as Manchester United with 134 pts in 34th position.
Congratulations to all those who made or didn't make it, and in particular to FERGY_THE_RED_NOSED_REINDEER who beat everyone.
Let's look forward to the next round!
One thing is for sure, and that is that the difference between maybe 30 positions lies with the choice of a single individual over another.
This week it was Fabregas, another Benayoun or Keane. I am sure this season will continue in the same vain.
miLs/Teeth/GTR - Thanks very much for the kind words, your support really is greatly appreciated...good work on getting through!
In terms of Donations...there is absolutely no obligation at all, I am offering the prize of a shirt to the winner of the Blog Cup out of my own money.
However, with the blog getting over 1500 hits per day now (wow!!) if people are able to donate anything (even 10p!) then there's a chance we could get enough money for a prize for the overall winner of all 3 blog leagues, & maybe even for the runners-up.
But as I said, no obligation, the Blog will always be free to read - it takes a lot of effort but I love doing it...it's been going for 4 months now & it's progressing better than I ever imagined, thanks mainly to the excellent regular contributers in the comment sections!
Cheers,
AM
Whoa!!

kewl!!
Thanks to some of the advice from this blog, I've had my best fantasy EPL season. Got through to the next round of the blog cup. I know a few others have said it, but thanks again AM and the other regular posters. It's a very entertaining and enlightening read for those of us that don't get much access to soccer in general.

great!.. i'm at 22 this first round.. team name:asher_maxten (137.5pts).. anyway AM, when is week 12?.. and how many team will go to 3rd round?..
Maxer..
First off, thank you AM for doing the wonderful job. If you can keep this up it will be amazing. I have next week off from school so I will record a short podcast on players I think will do decent after the break. AM if you want to give me yours I could compare the two if not it will be my biased lineup :) I beat you see!
this was quite enjoyable, thank you AM. i finished in 108th place with 114.5 points.
safely in, but not if it where the next round.
raul,
try getting giggs for lennon. he is only 13.45 and going to start!
Excellent work!
I came in at 7th from top. Lucky boy =P
I'm totally looking forward to the next round!
Greginho,
Fitting Giggs into my team will be difficult
Right now my line up looks like this
Jensen 6.52 - against blackbunr, great chances for clean sheet
Verm 6.05
Sonko 3.16 - good filler, but returns with great points for value
Givet 6.23 - against Burnely, clean sheet is not mission impossible
Fabregas 16.75- expect decent points, about 15 or so
Lennon 11.50 - good match up, might explode, i think about him as ticking bomb
M.Jarvis 7.59 - Returns great points and he is second after giggs in succesful crosses, so great option for me, gets those phantom points.
Billy 4.71 - Even he shouldn't start, i still thinking about keeping him. Cheap for his value, no other good option under 5.I'm still postive about him.
Drog 10.66- you all will keep him
Adebayor 14.01 - against wigan, Adebayor as ciy goal machine, i guess he will score, probably even twice.
Defoe - again good match up, but not so sure about his form, back from injury and he is like black horse in my team.
Any thoghts?
What would you change if you were me?
I have to give a lot of credit to this blog, it is just excellent. You can get all the information for fantasy game. Now the blog cup, it's just getting better. My results have improved a lot, thanks to this blog.
raul,
leave it, tis a strong team!
14th in the Blog Cup ... thanks AM for all your hard work totting up the results.
Any chance the next tournament can be two weeks per round, where the winners advance on aggregate?
Just kidding ... ;-)
Yeah! Go through the 2nd round!
Hopefully I can get into the final round...
Good luck to everyone!
Community please help! AM if you could make a post about this please do it, it would help greatly. Everyone im askin for input to the new podcast im doing. If there is any topic you want discussed I will try and fit in as much relevant information I can on player picks, match ups, player form, etc. I feel this would go alot better than just me writing all of my own ideas as I wil probably miss things and I want to do a podcast that reflects the blog as much as possible. Thank you.
ToffeeDave, i guess i have missed something, podcast? New idea? or what? Please, tell about it.
Phew made it by 1.5 pts.. was strolling through the week with fab and vermaelen, then bridge, richards, given, torres, pienaar and tuncay getting 7.5 pts between them left me on the very edge :)
Liverpool 96.5pts
17th. Cool. :)
Thanks again, AM.
Some big teams got knocked out in round 1.
Bring on round 2!
that was close!
breathing down your neck there AM at the skin of our teeth down there at rock bottom for gw 2 :D
Raul I discussed it with am on the blog whether he wanted to do a podcast somehow with me, but since he does enough I figured I will do it and it will be just a feature on this blog. Like AM's weekly post of who are the top picks and such, I will discuss it in a pod along with some new features, I dont wanna spoil it.
unbelievable. missed out by 0.5 points.
opting out of cesc (for a more "balanced" midfield) and given returning a flat 0 cost me.
@ToffeeDave:
What you already mentioned is really all you need to do, would be very useful and, most importantly would not waste time with a lot of idle chit-chat:
Top Matches: those you want players in, those with greatest likelihood of clean sheets.
Top players: those in best current form, season keepers, best value players, most promising newcomers.
Injury news, suspension reminders.
That's it. If you need more help send me a PM and I'll do what else I can.
ToffeeDave,
For your pod. I'd be interested in your thoughts on selling and holding players you have at a discounted price. It's one of the hardest decisions I have sometimes, and I think I often hold players I shouldn't just because I have them at a discount. What are some of the factors you consider?
And thanks for helping make this place a great blog.
And by the way, I just donated £5 to AM and I'm not even in any of his leagues. It's just a way of saying thanks for a great blog. (It would have been £10 but he's a Spurs fan. :))
Installing new software to record right now. I will be mixing the intro/outro music tonight and will record the actual meat of the pod in 2-3 days so you guys have a few days to get suggestions in.
P.S. Thanks for the kind words and help
Quality work once again AM, couldn't believe it when I saw the list of names and points for the Blog Cup, that must have taken a lot of time and effort to sort out...so, thanks!
The Blog Cup happened to fall on a high scoring week for me! I managed to finish in 3rd spot (Rosa's Leg Ends), so chuffed to bits with that, ahhhh the drama of the cup!
I'm enjoying the blog from Perth, Western Australia, where I am living currently, despite being a Yorkshire boy through and through :)
AM, you've definitely had a positive effect on my points tally this season. The constant flow of news updates and qualty information has really helped me out, so cheers! Now my playing season has finshed and I will be home more on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings, you never know, I might even be able to Barn Door a player for the first time this season ;)
All the best, Ash
nicely said Ash.. i too if i didn't found out about this blog wouldn't know there's such thing as 'the Barndoor'.. :p
Maxer..
was one of the unlucky ones...
ended up with 90.5, shy of the cutoff. had 3 sub-par weeks in a row, hoping things turn around. my strategy of investing heavily in front with drog, torres, rooney hasn't yielded the returns i had hoped. probably stick with them to try to get something out of it, but tempted to shuffle greatly for a more balanced midfield.
good luck to everyone in the 2nd round.
thanks AM.

p.s. i was amazed at how worldwide the people on this blog are; it's great to see so many different places represented. cheers!
The Wasphawks finish with 117 points and are on their way to round #2.
Being my first season of fantasy football UK style, I would not be where I am at if it were not for AM and this blog.
Thanks.
ps. I must be doing something right....I scored the same amount as that Steve Bob FC guy :)
I have to say. This blog is GREAT!! Kudos to you AM!!
Quite disappointed to miss out on the blog cup...seeing that I have been playing fantasy for several seasons and the mistake was putting Keane in instead of Fab :(
Nontheless, will still pick up my socks and hope for better results next week. Feeling confident w my current team :P Looking forward to the next Blog Cup in JAN!!!
Thanks again AM!!!
Dude - do you realise how difficult it's going to be for you in round 2? You have to firstly identify the Top 200 as above, then rank them accordingly. While the data can easily be transferred to Excel there's still no easy way of identifying the qualifiers. Good luck! Great Blog. Matthew
Toffee Dave - Great effort with the podcast! As I said it's not something I'm currently interested in doing myself but I'm happy to post it up to allow people to listen/download, appreciate all the effort mate!
Gooner - Thank you so much for the donation, it's a huge help & these donations will go a massive way to securing additional prizes! See the bottom of this post for information that may interest you!
Matthew - Yeah the 2nd Round is gonna be a killer, but luckily by leaving 3 or 4 weeks between rounds it gives me time to organise/calculate everything if it becomes a bit of an "information overload" situation!!
Everyone else - thanks for all the positive feedback, I'm thinking of opening a 4th blog league later today, purely because there are now a thousand readers per day (people like 'Gooner')so there must be plenty more people who want a space. It's a shame they won't be able to take part in the 1st Blog Cup but to be honest any more than 300 teams would've have been too much to handle.
Cheers,
AM
i made it in 58th wth 128 points, thanks to cesc mostly. Pretty good for having 2 players throw up a 0 :(.
Hoping i can kind keep putting 100 points up, more just to do well overall it the game. Unlikely as i've had like two haha, but maybe.
Hey AM
First of all this is an excellent blog which i read daily and like many others I appreciate all the hard work you put into this!
It is my first year in YFF and this blog, as well as all the comments from yourself and regular contributers, has proved very helpful since i began reading it about 3weeks ago.(ive had 3 consecutive 100+ points per week since then, averaging about 125points per week!)
anyway, im really looking forward to the prospect of joining the 4th blog league you may be setting up later today! do you have any idea what time this will be at? also how exactly do i join the league once it is set up?
Thanks
Jason
btw I had to post as anonymous as i couldnt figure out how to post as "jason"!?
There is a box "Comment as" you just need to click on it and pick Namne/Url and type in your desired name.
AM -
I have a suggestion
Why not write down the team ID's next to the team names and during the BC Week , you just have to type in the team id in the URL and see their weekly points.
Hope that makes it a bit easier for you
Or....
You could start another 2 leagues only for the top 200 to join. Far less admin but then you're relying on the qualifiers to join and the non-qualifiers to KEEP OUT! Matthew
wow... i'm at 195th place...
wat da miracle.... =)
4th place here..so happy..
-danial / penang-malaysia
wrong..im in 5th place..rofl...
-danial /penang - malaysia
i got exact 94.5 but kighyly's -2 changed everything
great that u summarise/put all the 300 teams in this post.. hopefully u can do the same for week 8.. so that we knows our place among these 300 teams (since we cannot peek the other league.. i'm in YFF3 btw).. but that just a suggestion, its a lot of work.. and you've done too much already.. thanks AM for this great blog and other for the advices.. cheerssss..
Maxer..
