Week 13 - Saturday

Okay, I'm back. Apologies about yesterday, the issues have semi-resolved themselves this morning (thanks for the messages guys & for keeping the great discussion up in my absence)...football always helps take my mind off problems, so time for quick review on Saturday.

Lots of points about - unfortunately not for me. I finished Saturday with 54 points, dropping 500 places.

I obviously had a decision to make on Friday as I mentioned in my Week 13 Team post...Adebayor & Duff or Rooney & Bily. Rooney's hattrick was pretty much the worst thing that could happen, but Duff saved my day to an extent with his late goal bringing me 24 points. If Bily were to score a zero today then my decision only cost me 9.5 points, but I expect Bily will do more than that. Defoe obviously failed but he was always a long term investment for the upcoming fixtures so I can take that hit.

I've mentioned Duff, Dempsey weighed in with some handy points, but Ireland disappointed & Dunn was the best player on the pitch until he was injured after only half an hour, so his 1 point was expected.

My defence didn't do a lot. Baird returned his cost with 4.5, but Alexander only provided half a point & it may be time for me to drop him for next week. Kirkland came through with a clean sheet, but 10 points was slightly dissapointing, despite that being almost 10 times his value.

I'm left with Vermaelen & Drogba today & I could really do with a Drogba goal to help salvage some pride and get me up towards 70-80 points for the week, but I'm really clutching at straws.

Now on the barndoor I grabbed Rooney & O'Hara but that's pretty much it. It's funny that despite Boateng's better average & I still prefered O'Hara over him. Not sure why, just a personal preference I guess. I'll probably look to get Fabregas in, but I'm hanging on to Duff, Drogba, Defoe, Vermaelen & Kirkland. I was initally going to load up on Aston Villa but Spurs battered tham last night & should've won, Villa weren't impressive, Hull are on a great run, so I'll probably steer clear.

We now have a great day of football ahead of us, so I plan to sit back, relax, enjoy & hope for a Drogba hattrick! Let me know how your week is going so far...who did you get in on the barndoor?

Cheers,
AM

No worries AM, i'm sure we can all do a bit of a sum up or whatever in the comments section, and there are enough knowledgable people frequenting your blog to help out when needed.

Take care of yourself chap :)

Well another Saturday is done and dusted, lots of players scoring very decent points, some cracking games, and I see a lot of managers got back, or will be getting back to 100+ weeks again after this little lull a lot of us have had.

Firstly I should mention Giggs, as he was, in my opinion, Utd’s stand out player by a mile, he played some great balls, scored a set piece goal and his touch is as good as it ever was.

How did my team do? Rooney scored 3, I still don’t think he’s anywhere near his best, but I’m holding onto him now for the foreseeable future due to his great fixtures over the coming weeks.

West Ham scored a ton of goals, every one of them with a different player, and I had to go and pick the one that warmed the bench all day. Yes that’s right, I picked Noble. Anyway I won’t go into that, but I will say that West Ham looked good going forward, but are becoming a nightmare to pick from. Zola loves to spring a few surprises lately it seems. Alexander didn’t do anything, but you never know when he’ll pop up for a penalty.

My only other goal scorer after Rooney was Jimmy Bullard, who has been extremely lucky to get the points he has over the last 2 weeks. He’s not getting any phantom points, without the goals he’d be awful. I’m considering dropping him after this weekend, amazing celebration though, I wonder how Phil Brown takes it haha!

So that’s it, Rooney, Bullard, Noble and Alexander got me 47 points, not great, but by no means the end of the world I thought…

Then I saw how many other players got into double digits, with notable contributions from Duff, Giggs, Eagles, Stanislas, Rodallaga etc etc. Even Robbo and the Blackburn defence got in on the act again with a clean sheet. Kirkland (who I dropped for Hennesey last minute) and co scored great aswell.

So this leaves me worried for my week, I have 7 players on tomorrow but I’m not confident of even reaching 100, so shrewd barn door picks are definitely the order of the day to get myself back into the frame. I’ve already barn doored Boateng and Kirkland, and will be taking a keen interest in Arsenal players tomorrow, I want to see where/if Walcott plays and if Eduardo starts to find some form.

Probably see you all in the chat room tomorrow!!

Over and out,

75.5 points with Hennessey, Vermaelen, and Drogba to go. I'm sad I didn't follow through on my impulse to drop Ireland for Eagles. Overthinking my team on a Friday night would've been a good thing this time. I'll also probably regret putting Hennessey in goal. Both Robbo and Kirkland with CSs? This may be a sign of the apocalypse.

At last! Another Henessey owner. I'll tell you what, the more i think about it, the more i regret it. But i guess he does have a decent chance of also getting a clean sheet at home to Birmingham, i think it'll be a tight game.

McD,
HEY GUYS, I CAN SAY ABOUT 55%-60% DID NOT DO WELL TODAY, BECAUSE IF U LOOK AT THE TOP 50, THERE IS HARDLY ANY HUGE POSITIVES OR NEGATIVES. JUST ONE OF THOSE WEEKENDS. WELL LETS FOCUS ON NEXT WEEK'S GAME, AND AFTER NEXT WEEK, THERE ARE GOOD MATCHUPS AND ALL ARE DOUBLE GAMERS. THESE WILL BE THE MAKE AND BREAK WEEK WERE U GET CAUGHT UP OR U GET SCREWED. "AM" DOES A GOOD JOB THATS UNEXPLAINABLE, HEY ITS JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS, SHAKE IT OFF BRO, U WILL DO BETTER NEXT TIME

Said I wasn't going to change my side but then realized I had 4 Wigan players, which is a personal no-no. I never have more than three from any side. Decided to go with more Arsenal players, dropping Jarvis for a spot, and trading out Milner for AYoung. So here's what my team looks like now:

Kirkland
Scharner/Vermit/Kaboul
O'Hara/KPB/Walcott/AYoung
Yodallega/Agbonlahor/Dudu

I'm pretty confident this will be my final team.

After slipping from 34th to 8000ish I've finally had a good week.
93.5 with Drog, Fab and Verm to come moving me up nearly 3000 places.

Best Wishes AM.

AM - just to back up what everyone else has said, hope you and yours are all OK mate - best of luck.

Middling week, 72 with 4 to play so hopefully I'll make the 100 points and get back into the top 100 overall.

As for next week barndoored Triore, Fab and Eduardo. Thinking of bringing in KPB or O'Hara for Dunn depending upon how serious his injury is, and not too sure what to do with Captain Kirk as yet - a little nervous on keeping him but not too much I can replace him with at a decent price (unless I go with Robbo at home to Liverpool, which frankly feels like madness at this stage).

Once again, I made all the wrong decisions. Rooney, Collison and Bullard were all in my team at some point, but I switched them for Berbatov, Valencia and Konchesky, who got me 10.50 among them.
Defoe was disappointing, Brown did OK, and Fulop got 7, which is quite good considering my luck with goalies.
Duff was the only outstanding one, scoring almost half of my total score of 49.50.
I'm now left with Drogba, Vermaelen, Bilyaletdinov and Craddock.

This is my current team for next week,

Kirkland
Vermaelen Stearman ???
Bilyaletdinov Duff Fabregas Boateng
Drogba Defoe Rooney

My problem now is that I have only 4.25 points for a defender, and none of those available at that price are starters. I have great discounts on Defoe and Rooney, but one may have to downgraded to Eduardo, or Fabregas has to be downgraded to Arshavin

How much would you have if you dropped Defoe and Stearman?

Can't seem to connect to YFF or any UK Yahoo Sports websites for that matter. Anyone else from US having that problem?

"How much would you have if you dropped Defoe and Stearman?"

That would be 23.35 for a striker and 2 defenders

If you take Eduardo (7.51), you have a plethora of defensive optons. I would take one each from two of the following sides: Villa (Dunne, Cuellar, Warnock), Portsmouth (Hreidarsson), or Wigan (Boyce). Taking Dudu and Hreid will leave you with around 10 pts to play with.

So far, Bily gets 8 pts, Drogba is back with a goal, 2 SOTs, a YC, and Verm bags an own goal. He'd better get some blocks in to recover some points. Traore = YC. Arsh and Fabs have not done much, so hopefully their values drop. Interesting Sunday so far...

For next round, I am looking at this currently:

Kirk
Verm, Brown, Givet
Giggs, Eagles/O'Hara, Duff, Fab --> if he drops, or Arsh
Drog, Defoe, H-Rod

Givet is an obvious one to replace (vs. Livepool), but for 5.45 maybe he gets some blocks in? Hreidarsson is in the frame too. I can't afford Rooney, so will stick with the evergreen Giggs. I like how much H-Rod shoots and is now taking corners, so he stays, and Defoe is a keeper for the next 3-4 weeks. Eagles is a darkhorse in the 6.5 range. He seems to be taking some set pieces, firing in crosses from the wing and is facing Pompey.

122.50 for the week13:
Given
Nelsen,Heit,Baird
Nzog,Dunn,Duff,Jar
Rod,Roon,Cole

Barndoored Agbon,Milner,Dunn,Troare...Arsenal and Villa fixtures look great for wk14. Anyone have feedback if Traore will continue to play considering clichy and gibbs?

bought roon, bfay, o'hara carragher & traore on BD. Did orig buy hennessy, but just switched to kirkland after henn dropped today. that'll be a tough choice... as other cheapo g/k's ..robbo and given & hull g/k all have tough games. begovic is another option if he will play. presume eduardo is worth sticking too for home game with stoke, but he's not impressing at all.
kept dunn & duff for now. S.P

BDed Nasri instead of Walcott, which I got on BD yesterday. I'll probably be back with Walcott (he should be playing as forward next week), but got Nasri to have options before his price will rise.
My week has officialy turned misserable after today's defeat to Chelsea. I hope Drogba brakes a leg on ANC...

Also considering Dunne+Paintsil instead of Warnock+Heitinga, because Warnock seems to be injured and Fulham have a better chance for CS.
Good move?

81 points. Meh. Adebayor, and Dunn killed me this week, and I should have stayed with Dempsey/CCole/Emerton instead. No more Friday overthinking for awhile for me.

At least Drogba's points actually count for something now though, as I moved up 300 places today based on his output alone. Almost all of my points were from him and Rooney.
