Week 15 - Player Picks

I don't have much time at all at the moment so I'm going to jump straight in to the Week 15 fixtures!

There isn't really a proper stand-out match this weekend: if I had to pick one it would probably be Manchester United at home to Blackburn, but United aren't really playing that well. Fergie's men will almost certainly win, but Blackburn can be tough to break down so it won't be a walkover...and they should watch out for Morten Gamst Pederson in particular!

Everton should beat a West Brom side who are starting to struggle after a bright start and I tip Chelsea to bounce back against Newcastle with the hosts missing Barton, Coloccini & Williamson through suspension (Sol Campbell vs Drogba?). Liverpool's away form has been rotten so you have to favour Spurs, if Man City play anything like they did at Fulham then they should win at Stoke & in-form Bolton will have too much for Blackpool at the Reebok.

For the remaining four games I can see Fulham v Birmingham, West Ham v Wigan & Wolves v Sunderland being low scoring draws or tight win's either way and predict Aston Villa v Arsenal to be an open, high scoring draw.

Now on to the players...

KEEPERS
Howard
Jaaskalainen
Schwarzer
Gordon
Green

All of the above keepers have a chance of clean sheets and/or wins. Howard & Jaaskalainen are the pick of the bunch, Mark Schwarzer tends to make a lot of saves and has scored decent points despite Fulham's poor form, while Craig Gordon is playing well and faces a Wolves side who don't score many goals.

People will question the selection of Rob Green, but Wigan are the lowest scorers in the Premier League and they're missing Rodallega & their captain Alcaraz through suspension - West Ham won't get a better chance to kick start their season. I'm leaning towards the Green pick myself.

DEFENDERS
Bale
Kolarov
Coleman
Salcido
R.Ferdinand
Bosingwa/Zhirkov*
(* if back from injury)
Dann/Carr
Hutton
Squillaci
Bardsley
Enrique

P.Robinson
Jacobsen
Mancienne
S.Caldwell

Bale should enjoy running at/past Glen Johnson, Man City's Kolarov (taking set pieces) is starting to look like a real bargain for all of us who grabbed him at 4ish and Coleman should be back on the right wing for Everton, although I am getting concerned about a few early substitutions/bench appearances recently - it's one to keep an eye on.

Salcido is back from injury & will continue rampaging down the left for Fulham, Rio is the most affordable Man Utd defender (unless you grabbed Rafael pre-update), Bosingwa should return at right-back and we await news on Zhirkov's injury - if he's back he's tempting at under £7m.

Dann or Carr can cover the Birmingham clean sheet if you think they can keep out Fulham, Hutton is a good Bale alternative, Squillaci has looked more solid than Koscielny & is less likely to pick up a card, Phil Bardsley makes his first appearance on the list this season after some solid scores (Onuoha is too expensive) & Enrique is the cheapest he's been for ages after negative points last weekend.

If you're looking for some filler defenders then Bolton's Paul Robinson, West Ham's Jacobsen, Wolves' Mancienne & Wigan's Stephen Caldwell are all under £5m and all have a great chance of starting this weekend's games.

MIDFIELDERS
Nani
Malouda
VDV
Cahill
Holden
Nasri
Arteta
Milijas/Jarvis
M.Taylor
Meireles
Silva
Adam
Dempsey
Young/Downing
Lee CY
N'Zogbia
Larsson
Park
Henderson

A whole bunch of interesting midfield picks are once again headed by Nani, Malouda and Van Der Vaart, who all have very appealing fixtures. Nani is scoring consistently well, Malouda is starting to get back to his early season level & Van Der Vaart is in sensational scoring form in home games - although he missed out last night with an ankle injury, so we'll wait for team news.

Tim Cahill already has 7 goals playing as a 2nd striker for Everton and faces West Brom, Stuart Holden has been excellent for Bolton and I'm sure that'll continue, Samir Nasri will be pulling the Arsenal strings once again as Fabregas sits out with another hamstring injury & Mikel Arteta is another Everton players who could be set for a big week.

Milijas and Jarvis are solid performers & I'm considering Milijas who'll be back in the starting line-up after a benching in Week 14. Matty Taylor is back in the Bolton side & is a Holden alternative, Meireles is taking set pieces in Gerrard's absence, David Silva is due a score after a few quiet weeks and the same could be said of Charlie Adam, who has sorted his finally sorted out his contract wrangle with Blackpool.

Clint Dempsey will be pushed up as a second striker in Dembele's absence,  Young & Downing will be behind all Villa's craft (especially with Albrighton out for a few weeks), while Lee CY is another Bolton option. N'Zogbia will have to carry Wigan with Rodallega suspended, Seb Larsson is having a fine season for Birmingham, Park will be back after his Champions League rest & the impressive Jordan Henderson completes the list.

STRIKERS
Elmander
Drogba
K.Davies
Tevez
Van Persie
Yakubu/Saha
(*waiting for team news on who starts)
Agbonlahor
Defoe
Rooney
Bent/Wellbeck/Gyan
(*waiting for team news on which 2 start!)
Hernandez
Obinna
Andy Johnson

I'm still annoyed at switching Elmander out last Saturday morning, but I'm hoping to reap the benefits this week as he's back in my side & has a great chance of more goals against an open Blackpool team. Kevin Davies is also a great option again and has the added bonus of penalties, but he's also a major card risk.

I mentioned earlier that Newcastle have serious defensive issues, which means Didier Drogba & Chelsea will be up against an ageing Sol Campbell and I'm tipping him to get back amongst the goals. Tevez is clearly over his thigh injury after that excellent display at Fulham and I can see Stoke having some real problems coping with his speed across the ground.

Robin Van Persie is an interesting one - he's yet to start a game since his return from injury, but I can't think of any reason for him to be rested for the Champions League unless Wenger has him lined up for a start at Villa. I'm really tempted to bring him in at just 12.6, and because his game is the early kick-off we might get confirmation of the teams before the deadline.

An Everton striker will be a great option vs WBA, while Gabby Agbonlahor is fit, raring to go, facing a leaky Arsenal and is an unbelievably tempting £7.5m. Defoe should get a start vs Liverpool after 2 cameo appearances, Rooney broke his duck last night & could now go on a run, whichever two of the Sunderland strikers start are good picks at Wolves and Hernandez should come back in after a goal off the bench followed by a rest.

Surely Obinna has got to score eventually? 30 shots & still no goal in the league this season! Finally, if you're looking for a bargain striker certain to start then look no further than than Fulham's Andy Johnson, priced at just 4.5.

That's it for another week!

I haven't had much chance to work on my own team since my post on Tuesday, but just FYI, it currently looks like this:

Green, Coleman, Kolarov, Bale, Adam, VDV, Cahill, Malouda, Nani, Elmander, Hernandez

It's unsaved...Tevez, Gyan are still held at discount and there is still a lot of uncertainty and I'm sure it's change significantly before the deadline - Agbonlahor, RvP & Milijas are all possibilities.

As always, please vote in the poll:
http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/509586

I'll be back on Friday to update you with all the important team/injury news and to update you on how my team is looking.

How's your team shaping up? Any hunches? Who do you think will flop?

Cheers,
AM

Hey AM - Thanks for the picks, although I'm surprised to see you do them before today's CL games. Great picks though!

Question: Lampard is predicted to be back this weekend, do you think he will make it as a starter?

Another thing is that Yahoo! is completely ignoring the fact that Cesc Fabregas commited a penalty, and should be deducted 8 pts. Anyone else noticing this, or is it just me?

My team atm: Green/Boateng-Kolarov-Bosingwa/Nani-Cahill-VDV-Adam/Elmander-K.Davies-RVP

Thanks again for the picks!

AM, what about Steinsson? Great chance for him to start this week after being benched last week?

I was surprised that he didn't start last week..no injury news whatsoever..

MPFC/KPM said...

I almost feel like I should stir up some $hit just to get a reaction from somebody (ala what has been happening on previous posts here and on Jeremy and Neal's blog). I post regularly and get zero feedback or response.

Not my style though.

Oh and PLEASE let the Cesc penalty thing go. I actually gained back all but 500 places of my losses this past week. More than happy to see Chamwow thrown under the bus.

was gonna flog nasri, but with fabregas out, i will probably keep. anyone know who would take the majority of set pieces if van persie & nasri both start ?. v persie is rel cheap but has a tough game- but then again arsenal have been playing much better away than at home. might just go with obinna even though he's never scored well for me, but the top teams do pick him. the gyan issue is a pain. wolves i think are only side in lge not to have a clean sheet, but i agree with AM's analysis that wellbeck & benty might just leave him benched.

Assistant Manager said...

Saul - had to do the picks today, I won't have time tomorrow & Friday is too late. I didn't expect Lampard to be back yet but we'll await team news.

RE: Fabregas - lots of sites have awarded the "penalty conceded" to Chamakh because while Fabregas actually lifted his & Chamakh's arms up, it actually stuck Chamakh. I think it's 50-50, but seeing the points have already been adjusted I doubt it'll be changed.

RE: Steinsson, you answered your own question :) Ricketts has started in his place at Wolves and kept his place vs Newcatle, Bolton have won both games well so no reason to think Coyle will change it.

MPFC/KPM - get in the chatroom mate, you'll always get feedback in there.

S.P - I think RvP will get most set pieces, ahead of Nasri, but we won't know for sure until we see the start of the first game!

Bojan - I wasn't sure he'd walk right back in after a good win for City at Fulham, but if he's set to start then he's a great pick!

Balotelli will walk right back in without the slightest doubt, question is will score well away to stoke, knowing his temperament they might try to wind him up.
In Mancini's eyes no
one at Citeh will keep Balotelli on the bench unless its a tactical move.

I expect daniel sturridge to get a start. ancelotti has a habit of rewarding stikers who score in the CL games by taking them off early and giving them starts. Malouda looked good, again, back in the MF where he belongs. At 3.24 sturridge could be a ridiculous bargain, oh and he loves to shoot

If Balotelli starts you pick injured Gerrard for week 16 if Jo starts i do same.

Perhaps Balotelli won't start but I'm buying him now. He's cheap and I think that he is better than Jo in that left wing. Basically I'm taking the risk.

Mancini said 'Balotelli could score a goal in every match if he keeps his head down' . Doesn't sound like a man who'll bench him and for Jo. If Balotelli doesn't start you know Citeh is playing with just one striker-Tevez. I've said too much already.

Hi guys,

Has anyone purchased this system? I wanted to know if it was any good before I spent the money?

Bojan said...

@ anon - we could do that but i would be stupid ;-)... i will put mario in my team and you dont... simple as that

Assistant Manager said...

Boateng was missing through injury vs Fulham but Mancini has suggested he'll replace Zabaleta if he's fit enough for the weekend.

Bale came off for a rest at 3-0, but VDV could be a doubt with an ankle injury after a scan revealed it was more than just a knock. Mind you, a Sunday game gives him an extra day to recover.

Anonymous said...

Anon 10:14, if there REALLY is such a thing as a successful betting system then the person who discovered it would not bother selling it to additional people for £19, as allowing others to bet on the same patterns they'd discovered would have a largely negative affect on the odds they had found to be successful. These things are almost always a scam or at least unreliable, and I doubt very much they've discovered something you couldn't work out yourself if you spent an hour or so studying a few statistics.

Always check here

If it's not there as a proven system, don't pay a penny for it.

I'll back up Ian Sanderson re: postponement possibilities of the Newcastle v Chelsea match and second his "brrrrrrrrr". As I look out my window now, I see a good 5-6 inches of snow on the ground and you know what health and safety officials are like; even if the pitch itself is ok, if the area around St James' is deemed dangerous, the game could be called off.
Obviously we don't know for sure what it'll be like by Sunday but I'd be wary of picking too many Chelsea players.

According to the BBC weather report, there'll light snow showers tonight, then sunny intervals Fri and Sat, then more light snow showers on Sun, with the temperature never getting above 2°C (35°F) in that time. I'll certainly be wrapping up warm if the match does go ahead.

donut said...

I for one think Pauly and his fillers list have been missed - couple of crackers on there Pauly eg AJ@4.x, heitinga@4.x- very helpful...

Also backing up the brrrrrr from Ian/Steve. UK is mighty cold and more snow is forecast in the North...a real risk as Steve says of the HSSE crew calling games off...

KPM/MPFC said...

It would be greatly appreciated if all the England based folks would keep us updated on the weather conditions. After last year's cluster (17.5 points) I am going to be REALLY careful during a snow week.

Oh and much thanks to Pauly for the fillers post. I had completely forgotten about Heitinga.

agree with the weather comments. newc v chels seems to be most at risk. fingers crossed for it, as i'm going big on Drog's. gulp.

S.P.

Anonymous said...

To add to AM's thoughts on Agbonlahor:

1) I think if Pires plays significant minutes Villa's overall offense will create more chances on goal.

2) I do not think Arsenal keep a CS. Since the beginning of the season Arsenal has kept 4 CS; 3 expected CS vs weaker teams: Wolves, West Ham, Blackpool; and amazingly 1 CS at Man City away although they were playing vs 10 men since 5' into match. Of those goals they concede, many are from forwards.

3) But, FFS is reporting "Gerard Houllier has confirmed that John Carew will feature against Arsenal." So Agbon's minutes are in question perhaps?

Arsenal_Bergkamp said...

@Cap
Players' price also depends on the # of YFF manager add/drop them. You will expect prices increase if significant of YFF Managers added the player to their team.
Players price usually changes when the points are updated/adjusted and right after the transfer deadline.

After you added the player you want, you need to click "save team changes" in order to save the discounts(assume their price will increase).
You will find it very helpful to get players barndoor tips from "The AM Chatroom", Chatroom regulars will discuss which players to BD during matchday/after transfer deadline.

Skrtel's points rely heavily on Cleansheet, he has 5 cleansheets so far.
In the last 6 games, if you remove his Cleansheet points in wk 10, 11 and 14, he only returns
0.5, 4, 0.5, 2.5, -1.5, 1.5. It is very hard for liverpool to keep a cleansheet against Spurs at WHL imo.
For $7, there are many more great alternative defender out there.

The only thing that could slow down spurs is injury and it is not far fetched that some stars are due to pick up a knock especially bale. Harry runs the boy ragged if he goes down and maybe another role player like vdv or modric i cant picture them succeeding. The bench is ok but non of them have the class of vdv or bale. They also give up goals not the strongest of defences so if that offense slows down there could be some draws and loses. I guess we'll have to see what happens hopefully non of what i said they are very entertaining to watch now that is for sure.

Boateng Richards and Boyata are all fit and Mancini didn't give away anything, any of them could start, same for Balotelli, Jo and Adebayo.

Obinna or Piquionne?

====================

for SOT, Successful crosses, Free Kick, Assists & may be GOAL you must be pick OBINNA

Piquionne is good for GOAL & SOT.

whatever you pick don't forget Save Team Changes.
