Week 5 - Update
Just random thoughts and some team news as we enter the final 24 hours before the Week 5 deadline.
I'll start with goalkeepers - and thanks to some of the comments from readers I'm now rethinking whether to take the zero for Kirkland (assuming he continues on the bench) or go with one of Foster/Howard/Robinson (Hart may be out of reach).
If I go with a one of these guys then my dream of having Ashley Cole goes out the window, but I've got this gut feeling that I just shouldn't take a certain nil-points for my keeper. It's likely I make up my mind late tonight but for now I'm putting myself in a position where I have a "Kirkland team" and a "GK for 7.5ish team" in my mind, ready to make the switch based on this decision.
We still don't have any Van Der Vaart injury news - if he's confirmed as starting then he'll replace one of Barton/Adam for me, but if there's no solid news then I may just keep the two of them.
UPDATE: Harry says he's doubtful, so I probably won't risk him
Vermaelen is set to be missing for another week, so Koscielny and Squillaci are set to continue at the centre of the Arsenal defence at Sunderland. Will they be able to cope with Bent & Gyan?
Bolton will be missing their most vital players Jaaskalainen and Gary Cahill due to suspension, which makes Aston Villa attacking players even more appealing for Week 4.
Frank Lampard is set to be fit for the Blackpool game this weekend, which automatically makes Essien a less attractive pick. We'll have to wait for Ancelotti's press conference to get confirmation of this. I'd expect Malouda to start, it's extremely unlikely he gets rested 2 league games in a row.
UPDATE: Lampard is out, so Essien remains a great option
Hleb has recovered from his injury and is set to start start for Birmingham at West Brom. Not sure who drops to the bench, but it'll be one of their more attacking midfielders...Larsson or McFadden would be my guess.
Tim Cahill a doubt for Everton meaning Beckford or Yakubu could start vs Newcastle.
Team news will continue to trickle through as the day progresses so I'll look to update this post at lunchtime today and then again around 6pm UK time. Until then, please post any news your hear or read in the comments section below - it all helps!

kalou - drogs - dembele
Still watching on news on vdv and ivanovic, may swap for mark wilson and nolan(5.34) and bring in a decent keeper. In principle I've got no issue with 0 points for 1.6 though.
got a feeling about kalou this week, plus expecting scholes to have a good game against liverpool, yellow or no yellow.
anon 11:19, I'd be a bit careful with skrtel, can't really see a clean sheet against man u to be honest. i'd bring in wilson and spend the money upgrading song to vdv if playing if possible...
if anybody cares,
Tamir Cohen is unavailable because of the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.
anyone with Rob Green as a GK? he will get saves and WHU are playing for their lives against low-scoring but very good Stoke... he is in my roster now... any ideas?

@Anons 11:19 and 11:47:
Nolan may not be a very good pick in theory; he's only worth it if he gets goals. This in addition to the fact that Everton are beginning to find their form again (not just because of their 3 goals but also because of the way they attacked against manchester united, it's a shame they didnt win).
I cant see Skrtel getting a clean sheet earlier, and on the subject of clean sheets, Foster remains a good choice, saving 72% of all SOTs against him (this is a good percentage, considering even Joe Hart only saves 89% of SOTs) and West Brom arent exactly a very good side going forward. However, I myself am taking Kirkland to free up more cash-- and a 0 is always safe!
How about switching Song out? He is a defensive midfielder and is not likely to get 2 goals in 2 weeks. Marc Wilson is a good choice as many have and will mention.

*either
Well, I went ahead and did it...dropped Kirkland. I replaced Terry with Mancienne which gave me the money to buy Foster. I've always had bad luck picking Terry, so I'm hoping Mancienne/Foster will outscore him and make it a good choice. Hart is out of reach.

Drogba Gyan ChamWow!
Downing/AYoung are also out of reach, unless I go back to Kirkland. I'm kind of worried about that, as I also feel they may have a good game.
I am surprised that nobody seems to have picked Nani, with the amount of crosses/shots hes been having this year I thought he would be a very popular pick. I have a feeling Man united could really embarass Liverpool this weekend

@neoncoffee
I agree to an extent on nolan. at the end of the day though as an enabler at 5.34, and he's got back his value 3 weeks out of 4, and scored 25 odd in one of those. i'd pay no more though.
everton, yes form in a sense, but they've been letting the goals in, howard hasn't looked particularly strong to me at the moment, and newcastle have been playing a reasonably attaking game of late. they'll lose, but they'll probably score...

Taking a bit of a risk here, but wondering what everyone thinks.
Robert Green
Bale Kos Mancienne
Malouda Adam Jones Reo Coker
Drogba Berbatov Agbonlahor
Thoughts?
My strategies for this week are..avoid teams which are playing away games on midweek. eg, man citeh, chelsea (except for Drogs).
My hunch this week is evertonian Leon Osman.

What are the chances of Kalou starting?
thanks for clarifying the lamps new. was hearing very conflicting reports. all change then. downgrade to malouda & /or maybe squeeze essien in too.
S.P.
Kalou is not certain to start, so I wouldn't take the risk...but it's up to you.
Lampard definitely won't start, so Essien is a great pick.

@Bojan - Im going with Green at GK too. I think he makes enough saves that he will come out with positive points even if he doesn't manage a clean sheet.
Team so far:
Green

Looks like I need to sub out VdV - can anyone recommend a mid at 5.69 or less?

any comment for my team?
i have a comment - why the hell do you have 3 liverpool players away to man utd?
Kellz, thank you for your advice and comments. You have helped me make a decision for this week. I really fancy ashley young against bolton. I dropped chamakh and carrol last week to barndoor dembele and kalinic. So yes i got both of them preupdate. Don't know if this is a correct decision but there are no better options in the striking departments at their prices.
Sorry forgot to indicate my name again. Comment 3.41 was by me, bengoh91.
Here is my latest updated team
Robinson
Bale Mancienne Kos/Squillaci
Malouda Adam A Young Pennant
Drogs Dembele Kalinic
My only concern is Pennant's starting status. He is a good pick if he starts. And I also have to choose between one of kos and squil. It is very close and i made the wrong decision of choosing squillaci.last week. Hope it won't happen again.
Good luck to all my YFF mates this week!

Which is better:
Foster in goal with Toure replacing the injured VDV, or put Kirkland back in there and fit in Downing for VDV?
@kwyjibo: I think Foster has a very good chance of a CS, but it is a local derby so anything can happen. Yaya has shown good flashes of skill but has yet to make his selcetion justified with pts. I really tip Downing to score well vs a Bolton side not usually strong away and missing Jussi/Cahill arguably their best defensive duo. It also seems likely Kirk will remain on the bench after Al Hasbi again put in a decent performance.
Overall the question is whether Downing alone can outscore Foster/Yaya and honestly I think not. 2 players with a chance to score is always better than 1, even thought I hold both Downing and Kirk :D
Agbonlahor & Foster or Berbaov & Cudicini ?? All at full price .. Please advise me
On Goalkeepers...
I have decided that risking an extra 5 to get maybe 20 points from Rob/Foster/Howard is worth it. I have had mixed GK fortune this year but I am going to try and pick someone who is playing...
Robbo
Bale/Mancienne/Skrtel
Malouda/Barton/Adam/Essien
Drogba/Dembele/Gyan
Would love to have had Cesc but just cant squeeze him in!!
Skrtel I don't really want but have him on a bit of a discount and ManU aren't exactly on fire just now so you never know...
Essien I had on BD, released him, but now taken him back as with Lampard out he could do well...
The other one I am going to miss is Giggs - could have a good week!
To all non Drogba managers - he hasn't scored for 2 weeks and rested in mid week - I would suggest getting him in!!!
What is the latest on Salcido and his visa delays?
Crouch or kalou? Any idea whether van der vaat and fuller will start?
I have a really big wish to drop malouda and get a.young, his price went down so there is no big loss to drop him, and add him for another week, but if he starts against blackpool......... :) although not sure if young will do worse
SfSS
@ Cap
Good question - the Guardian team sheet has him (Ferreira) down as starting but Ivanovic started in mid-week.
There's a doubt so it's your call...
Ramires (5.39) may get to play though as Lamps is out?

bale - kosc - ferr??
Maloud - AJ - Eth - Albr??
Drogba - Chamwow - K Jones
Dont know status of ferreira or if he even does start if he gets the full 90 or gets pulled out again, like the first couple of games. I took VDV out and put albrington in. Affordable and i think he'll score well this week.
What about joe cole? Coming back after the suspention. With Gerrard in the center, and the wings taken, id expect cole to have more of an attacking midfield role here or even play fwd. Whats everyones thoughts on him?
Any other suggestions welcome. Cant decide about ferr and alb.
-GB
Is it better to gamble on malouda on starting or A cole a certain starter?
@anonymous 9:24pm - I'm taking the Malouda gamble. Along with (after much debate) Adam, Parker, and Downing.
Cheers and good luck!
Need help. Can't decide.
Etherington/VDV or Larsson/A.Johnson
Cheers!

What about M.Wilson? Neal has suggested him.
And your opions about R.Fuller, guys?

Ashley Young or Stewie Downing? Downing is in the form of his life but will it continue?
@Jack - VDV is an injury doubt, he might not play. Also, in order to get Drogba in your team at full price you'll need to sacrifice Hart to Kirk, sorry there's no other way. Unless you're willing to drop Malouda for a filler like Reo-Coker, but I don't recommend it.
I'd say keep the team you have and use the extra cash to upgrade VDV to Etherington or A.Young, they could have a big week.
Good luck and hope that helps.
My team for week 5...
Green(huge gamble but hey, why not)
Bale/Squillaci/Wilson
Malouda/Nani/Barton/Adam
Tevez/Chamakh/Kalou(just a hunch)
@Jack - Also just to clarify, you'll have to sacrifice more than Hart to get Drogba. You'll need a filler or even 2, depending on who you replace.
larsson and adam johnson, vdv is likely not playing...
@saul - nice comment dude
something to ask, why u ask me to upgrade VDV with Etherington or A.Young? How about adam johnson (man city)?
yes, if I want to get drog, I need to :
1) replace hart (vs chelsea next game) with kirk
2) use money in the bank (6.98)
3) sell dembele (at 6.5)
4) remove vdv with reo-coker
Is it reasonable to get 1 player (drog) but need to sacrifice a lot of potential player (hart, dembele, johnson/ether/a.young)??
Because, I thougt most of this player also have a good point during the season..
But, you cannot denied drog factor (2 games w/out scoring and rested during UCL, but still have a speedy points)..
Malouda? any chances to get on the bench again this week?
cheers

M. Chamakh,C. Tévez,D. Drogba.
Please give me some comments on this team.Is my team ok??or not??
any advice guys..
Jack - Yes A.Johnson is also a good option. The question you have to ask yourself is...will Drogba score more than the combined players being sacrificed? @21.xx it could be justified but @24.xx I'd say no. You have so many options to pick from without Drogba and maybe, I'm hoping this happens too, Drogba flops this week and only gets 10 pts. Drogba is like putting all eggs in 1 basket and it could backfire, but knowing him as the beast he is that is very unlikely.
Take a look at AM's player picks and see all the good options with good match-ups...Malouda, Etherington, A.Young, Johnson, Gardner, Fabregas and Arteta(more expensive but could also have huge week). Look at Tevez to strengthen your forward line or perhaps take a gamble on Kalou and maybe pays off big...maybe better pick than Drogba if he starts. Go back and look at AM's player picks, they're really excellent and It's helped me alot. Good luck and hope that helps.
oh and Nani is another off the wall pick, good chance to score big vs. Liverpool...tough match-up but possible.
Saul - another great comment dude
Yes, you are right..maybe it too risky to just lean my leg into drog..
Thanks dude
-jack-
@jack - I agree. It's not worth getting Drogba at full price. If he goes on fire, he may get about 35+ pts, but if you make two great picks @12 each, they will often score 20+ each. There's usually always a player who scores at least 20 being less than 10 in each week. Being able to spot medium priced candidates with the potential to shine each week is the key to success in this game I think.
I highly doubt Malouda will be on the bench on Sunday. Chelsea have 2 more midweek games in a row, and considering Malouda just got rested last week, I think he will be later rather than now.

essien is good pick..not to say nani is not..but how about after liv game..he will get more play time..
kalinic is good..but i dont think he will hve great weekend..even at home
@ff - I think if you really want Drogba, you must have Kirland in goal. Unless you have Drogba at discount, which I assume you don't, that's just the only way to balance your team. Use the Kirk money to get someone else than VDV(doubtful), take a look at AM's player picks. I would tell you to also upgrade Scholes but somehow I have a feeling he will score a goal vs. Liverpool, but maybe that's just wishful thinking coming from my Die-Hard Manchester United heart. Not much else I want to say since except for the skrtel pick, Wilson might be a better gamble. Anyways good luck and hope my suggestions help.
Hi need some help here. Have about 9.14 in the bank. Who do u suggest>?
Fuller, crouch, huddlestone, kalou (any idea if he starts) or adam johnson
Anon 5:36- Take Adam Johnson if you don't want to gamble on Kalou.
Can anyone suggest between
Etherington/Reo-Coker
or
Albrighton/Holden
or
Carroll/Dorrans
Thanks
PK
sk - thanks for the info dude
I think better for you to get alrighton rather than stick with scholes.
-jack-
@Anon 5:46, they're all good choices, I can see why you'd have a dilemna. Etherington always scores well at home, and against a side that's falling apart he's a good bet to score high.
On the other hand, Villa plays Bolton who are missing key defensive players, plus Albrighton and Holden would be extremely consistent even without Albrighton scoring a goal.
Lastly on Carroll/Dorrans, Carroll will definitely get chances on the break, but Dorrans hasnt been looking too good and he didnt play last week.
So in my opinion, your best choices are in this order:
Albrighton / Holden
Etherington / Reo-Coker
Carroll/Dorrans

Morning guys,
I only have one doubt for this week and it is whether to keep Barton or switch him with another MF for 8.08 or less.
My current team is:
Kirk
Bale,Kosc,M. Wilson
Adam,A. Johnson,Essien,Barton
Drogs,Berbs,Dembele
I will appreciate any comments! Thank you for the great blog AM - you are fantastic!
Staffer84
@Staffer84, I myself am keeping Barton, he's in the group of players who consistently scores above his price (or at least the price I have him at), along with Holden, Adam, etc.
I do like the look of your team, although I personally wouldnt pick Kos; i dont have much faith in the Arsenal defence. Also, fantastic that you have both Berbs and Drogs ^^

I will appreciate any comments! Thank you for the great blog AM - you are fantastic!
malouda and etherington, who is preference pick?
pls help...
@jack, refer to AM's player picks. But if you really want an answer, Bale. Always Bale.
@Anon 7:08, Cahill is struggling with a knee problem. There will be a late decision made on his fitness.
@ I.C., between the two teams you posted I'd like to believe the second one is better.
@Anon 7:13, it is unlikely that Ben Arfa will start, I think he'll come in as a substitute. Also, considering Tottenham's performance as of recently, I wouldnt bet on them keeping a clean sheet (even though in theory they should...)
@Anon 7:29, between the two I'd say it's a matter of personal preference. Both are likely to score goals. Of course, Chelsea is so much more likely to give their opponents a trashing, but on the other hand Etherington is 1. set pieces and 2. he always does well at home, plus Stoke are against a weak side.

This is my current team:

Will albrighton be rested? Carew is back

@Anon: No idea dude but i have him in my squad
-Prophecy-
barton/ether or pennant/a.young ?????i realy need help
-S-
For gardner, holden, albrighton dilemma, my choice would be gardner followed by albrighton and holden..
The Reason:
Bir vs WBA probably end up with a draw or 1-0 to Bir..I believe Jerome, zigic will be like siamese twins with WBA defense..this game will be decided my midfield player(gardner) and also larson..if hleb plays, there's a chance he will perform..
Albrighton is a hardworking, workaholic who doesnt really care who are his opponents. Determine to establish his role in the first team will encourage him to give less than 200%.
Holden point comes from PI,BS,TW..so its hard to predict as TW can turned into YC..i like to compare him with diaby..
just my 2 cent..
disagree with azri gadafi. Holden is the best choice of the three because of his consistency, plus there's always the chance of a bumper week, for example a goal or an assist.
Next best choice is Albrighton, facing Bolton who are missing key players. In addition, Aston Villa are quite attack minded-- the YFF points record supports this statement; Villa have loads of SOTs and corners won.
And lastly is Gardner. Out of all the players at Birmingham, there are none that are exceptional. Points could come from anywhere and it'd be like finding a needle in a haystack to try and figure out who would score each week. Sure, go with him if you have a hunch, but it could just as easily be your loss!
--neoncoffee
@ -S-, i'd go with Barton/Eth
--neoncoffee
Guys,
what about David Silva? Will he play? If he does, I guess he should be superb for his value.
~P.K~
:)
if holden can have a bumper week, why cant gardner..all im saying is gardner has score before thus making the possibility for gardner to shine this week is more than holden..
But this is only my thoughts..maybe both of them scores well, maybe not..maybe muamba and barry ferguson..haha..we'll never know..
whatever it is,just trust ur guts..
Good Luck to all fantasist!!

hi guys got a quick question, which one of the following shiuld i choose dorrans, albrighton or pennant
answers much appreicated
I have finalised my team:
G: Cudicini
D: Bale, Squillaci, Kompany
M: Malouda, Mikel, Albrigton, Simon Davies
F: Drogba, Chamakh, Odemwingie
Brought in some new faces:
Odemwingie: He played very well so far. And i do hope he might be able to give me some good point this week
Albrighton: Facin Bolton. I thinkg he will do well to get at least 8 points.
Mikel: vs Blackpool; who knows who will score. Maybe Mikel or Ramires :-)
Kompany: away to Wigan; and he been superb so far.

keeping reina in goal got him in @8.46(market price 11.63)week 3 16pts , week 4 11pts but they will lose to man u this week so probably -pts but next 2 weeks liverpool home to sunderland and blackpool. is this a good idea pls comment?
pls comment on this final line-up
reina, bale , kompany, Squillaci, malouda, albrighton, nolan, scholes, drogba, chamakh, carroll.
any suggetions!?
albrighton or ferreira?
Why is Wayne Bridge being overlooked?
i need a big week in order to be in contention of the Blog Cup and my private league..here goes:-
Foster
Wilson,Heitinga,Koscielny
Malouda,Ehterington,Adam,Ramires
Drogba,Chamakh,Jones
I had to drop Bale because everyone else going to have them n i must be different from others..so i opt etherington and Jones to be in and hopefully stoke thrash out west ham for good as they need 3 points badly to avoid relegation dogfight
ramires is just a filler as lampard would be missing and surely he will get a start again..heitinga is playing midfield and hopefully he got 1 or 2 shot at goal and a clean sheet..come on!!
Gardner or vdv?
The little extra cash it would bring would allow me to do slightly better on defense.
