Stoke v Man City

As many of you have already mentioned in the comments section of Friday's post, there's bad news for many of us holding triple gamers.

It's always a risk when a player has 2 or 3 games (plus the FA Cup in between), and for some of us it looks like it may not pay off after all.

From BBC Sport:-
Stoke's Matthew Etherington is out after suffering suspected medial ligament damage in Sunday's FA Cup tie against Manchester City.

Liam Lawrence and Andy Wilkinson should be fit despite picking up minor knocks.

Manchester City again expect be without Carlos Tevez, who has travelled to Argentina for family reasons.

Craig Bellamy (knee) and Vincent Kompany (groin) are out and Martin Petrov is doubtful, but Adam Johnson returns after being cup tied on Sunday.
I really feel sorry for Etherington - he's been in the form of his life over the past few months but it sounds like this could be a season ender for him & a huge blow as Stoke lose their most creative player for the run in.

No Tevez either for me tonight, and suddenly my week isn't looking quite so rosy. Even worse if you had Petrov who is currently competing with Rodallega for "flop of the week".

Cheers,
AM

The BBC football website has a report saying that Etherington has avoided a long-term injury, and will only be out for a couple of weeks. Doesn't help YFF managers who have him, but it's got to be good that he will be playing again soon.

Me too! Fingers crossed...
In any case, Carlitos & Ethe have paid their dues for the long week.
I hope Yeyga turns his week around and redeems himself. If not... The guy is at -1.0 after 180 minutes for crying out loud. It's simply incroyable.

"STOKE CITY have received encouraging news about the knee injury sustained by in-form winger Matthew Etherington in the FA Cup fifth round tie at the weekend. . . and hope now to have him back in action within the next few weeks."

time to jump off..me thinks.

"Midfielder Dean Whitehead returns after being rested for the FA Cup tie and captain Abdoulaye Faye is also back in the squad following a back injury, while Liam Lawrence and Andy Wilkinson are both expected to be recover from knocks."

lost petrov, tevez and have rodelega, so i am a little bitter, so that means rodelega, nzogbia and muamba have to take me to victory. muamba did almost score a scorcher that the goalie went back to parry out of bounds.

mpet is only a "doubt" unlike bellamy and kompany who are listed as "out" and tevez isn't confirmed out yet...

ever an optimist!!

shame about etherington but he has done well this week and most people have him so not too relevant...

Good to read that Etherington's injury is now not as bad as first feared, but I guess he'll be missing for around a month.

With Tevez & Bellamy missing for City, I wonder if my Adebayor gamble is going to pay off tonight?

just sold eth. got nasri for now. still pondering vidic. can't be certain any of the man u back 4 will play 2 games (apart from evra - touch wood !) . don't fancy of the w ham defence. wouldn't mind a villa def but they are soooo over-priced 12.50 + for collins, cuellar, or dunne. is warnock guaranteed to start now he's back fit ?? S.P.

@AM - Dick gamble payed off allready... Today he is playing for pick of the week...

Tonight will be low scoring game... Even 0:0 wouldn't be suprise for me...

Sad news for Eth but in fantasy terms 35.5 for 9 points in technically one week is awesome, glad I had him.

Glad i also chose Adebayor over Tevez as I believe Tevezs partner is expecting a baby - John Terry keeping his head down??

Took last min gamble with Moses instead of Rod and with Moses on 0 and 7 cheaper i believe my gamble paid off.

Been playing well recently, lets hope it stills goes on.

Barndoor work was James but Valencia was picked up quite cheap at 11 in place of Eth but taking out Given gave me an added 8 points to play with :-)

Almunia is not playing in the CL game b/c of a finger injury?!? Does this put him in doubt for the Sunderland match?

UGH.

Any suggestions on who I should replace Etherington with, I have 11.74 in the bank. I have a 3-5-2 formation so I could get a midfielder or a forward arong that price. Help guys?

Kellz said...

Hard to know who to replace him with when I don't know the rest of your team. I'd find a way to plug in some DG, or the juicy Chelsea vs Wolves match.

Fidan said...

@ Saul - There is always Evra, if you don't have him already...!!!

Cheers...!!!

@ Saul, I would look at Krancjar, as I think Spurs put at least 2 in the net VS Wigan.

hi all.. just came back from holiday..

anyway, too bad for eth and tevez.. both in my team and i was hoping they can help lift up my points.. but hey, hrod has to redeem himself for that negative points.. so, we'll see..

anyway, i might drop tevez for probably k2 and eth for valencia.. any thoughts?

Wow, this has to be the most underwhelming TG week ever. Etherington is injured, Tevez is on paternity leave, Tuncay didn't play, and Given looks like he got 2.0 more points. In short, 4 players = 2 points. Three of those had already done well though. Sadly the siren's song of the TG week seduced me into replacing Schwarzer with Given. Bad move.

I have N'Zogbia tomorrow. All my TG hopes and dreams rest on his shoulders. I also have Caldwell, but considering he's earned exactly bubkes from the 2 matches so far, I'm not expecting much from him.

Now I have add replacing Etherington to my week 23 line-up quandaries.

it's been nice taking a break from YFF for a little while.
starting to tinker again:

Jussi
Sagna(Baird) Shorey Bale
Park Fab Song(if healthy) Modric(Downing/Bullard/Arteta)
Drogba C.Cole Bendt

Finally, a team I LIKE, and with Fabs in it:

James
Verm,Bale,Tomkins
Bentley,O'Hara,Valencia,Fabs
Rooney,CCole,Bendt

I'm still holding Diamanti @13,55 and Evra/Fletcher. So ultimately it is Tomk/Fabs/Bendt for Evra/Fletch/Diamanti (4 vs (potentially) 6 games)...!!!

Any thoughts...???

Cheers

@Sulldaddy - I did consider Krankjar for a minute but is there any news on Lennon being out against Wigan? Sorry I forgot to post my team to give you a better look at what I'm working on...

James
Bale/Evra/Vidic (if fit)
Etherington/Milner/Park/Valencia/Fabregas
Bendtner/C.Cole

Etherington's gotta go and Krank is a good option if Lennon's still out. Any other suggestions...forwards maybe? 11.74

"Hugo Rodallega headed a chance wide and then saw his overhead kick fly over.
Bolton could have snatched it late on but Matt Taylor missed a hat-trick of chances, firing wide from outside then box and then twice from close-range." ouch...

Also anyone else having second thoughts about fabianski as an option for the weekend!? as a spurs fan, lol!

Bentley is the player who is on instead of lennon, not krancj...and lennon could be back anyway.

JT x 3 for anon
