Week 23 - Update
There's already a truckload of team and injury news to get through and I'm sure they'll be more to add as the day goes on. I'm going to tackle things club by club and update each team as the news trickles through from the various press conferences.
Let's start with the club of the man in the above picture...
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has dropped a hint that new signing Edin Dzeko could begin tomorrow's game vs Wolves on the bench, having not played any competitive football since before the winter break in Germany. This news isn't putting me off picking him - everyone will have him and I don't want to be the odd man out if he gets a surprise start or comes off the bench to score, plus his value could randomly jump after deadline & I don't want to miss out on him for 6.23. Mario Balotelli & Micah Richards are missing through injury but David Silva returns to the City squad.
Wolves have captain Karl Henry, Jody Craddock & Steve Mouyokolo back from injury, but George Elokobi will start a three-game ban for his red card in the FA Cup.
Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti revealed very little on his starting XI, stating only that the players had trained well all week and that Alex, Zhirkov & Benayoun are the only absentees. This means no news on the possibility of Drogba or Malouda being dropped for Daniel Sturridge. It's not like the Italian to be so unhelpful!
Blackburn have signed Roque Santa Cruz on loan from Manchester City for the rest of the season, and he's likely to go straight into the side for tomorrow's game at Stamford Bridge. Paul Robinson is back after a calf strain forced him to miss the last three games, Martin Olsson has recovered from his calf problem, whilst Christopher Samba is back after illness. Kalinic is also back from suspension.
West Ham will have Wayne Bridge ready to make his debut after moving on loan for the season. He's decent value at 5.88 for an attacking full-back.
Arsenal's big news is that Fabianski has failed a fitness test, meaning Szczesny will start the game at Upton Park & he's a great value option in goal for 5. 84. Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie are both back in the squad after this Carling Cup rest and both should start.
Tottenham have almost a fully fit squad to choose from, with only Ledley King & Tom Huddlestone on the sidelines with long-term injuries.
Manchester United are expecting to welcome back Rooney, Vidic & Van Der Sar so it will be a full strength team travelling to White Hart Lane.
Liverpool go in the vital merseyside derby with only Jamie Carragher absent, but Dalglish was very reserved in his press conference so we have no news Aurelio, or anyone else for that matter, so I'm going to avoid him & look elsewhere.
Everton have accepted an offer for Stephen Pienaar but he's still expected to play in the derby. Phil Jageilka has been ruled out, meaning Distin & Heitinga will continue at the back. Heitinga is priced under £4m so could prove a useful filler if you're looking to save some money to spend elsewhere. Tim Cahill is still at the Asia Cup.
Newcastle striker Andy Carroll is out of Sunday's derby clash as he's yet to fully recover from his thigh injury. Cheik Tiote begins a three-match ban but Jose Enrique, Steven Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez & Shola Ameobi should all feature.
Stoke have no real injury worries to deal with, but Tuncay will be hoping to keep his place after impressing in the FA Cup.
Bolton have real problems with injuries, and it's no coincidence that the recent strain on their small squad has led to them 3 defeats in their last five games. Gretar Steinsson and Stuart Holden are hoping to return but are still rated doubtful by manager Owen Coyle, while Klasnic is completely ruled out & Lee is at the Asia Cup.
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed he has dropped club captain Scott Carson in favour of Boaz Myhill after a string of errors, so I'm now trying to decide whether I take the zero (which I'm usually against) or try and reshuffle to add a playing keeper. Peter Odemwingie has a decent chance of making this game & Tamas returns, but Jonas Olssen is suspended. Chris Brunt will take the captain's armband - could that inspire him to a big performance?
Blackpool midfielder Elliot Grandin faces a late fitness test ahead of the trip to The Hawthorn but other than that there are no injury worries for Ian Holloway.
Wigan have Tom Cleverley sidelined along with James McCarthy, Franco Di Santo and Victor Moses, but Charles N'Zogbia returns from suspension.
Fulham may give Steve Sidwell his debut (possibly from the bench) and are boosted by the return of as Moussa Dembele and Andy Johnson from injury for the clash at the DW Stadium.
Birmingham have included David Bentley in the squad and he's expected to start this game, but Scott Dann has a hamstring tear that could keep him out for a while so Murphy or Jiranek will come in as McLeish reshuffles his defence.
Aston Villa winger Ashley Young serves a one-match suspension following his sending off at Sheffield United, while Emile Heskey is still suspended. Loan signing Kyle Walker is likely to continue at right-back in the absence of the injured Luke Young.
Keep checking back!
UPDATED TEAM
Szczesny, Heitinga, Kolarov, Bale, Bentley, Adam, Lampard, Van Der Vaart, Dzeko, Van Persie, Tevez
Heitinga comes in as a filler and downgrading Brunt to Adam (who I still held @ 8.5) allows me to bring in the Arsenal keeper at West Ham. Is it worth the sacrifice? I may still revert back to Carson so I can keep Brunt and move back to a better defender than Heitinga. What do you think?
How's your team looking now?

AM, why the confidence in Aurelio? Hasn't played much this season . .
indeed
But Aurelio is so bad that Daglish played GJohn out of position against Blackpool.

AM, why buy dzeko if you know that he will be on the bench? We could always buy him in pre-update right?
and may i know where do you find/heard the news on David Silva?
Mine is:
Carson
kos, skrtl, caldwell
lamps, adam, eth, yaya
torres, bent, tevez
Really not satisfied, especially on cars and yaya... will choose silva if he plays..
-Cuy
Aurelio was rested after playing his first 90 minutes of the season on the Sunday in the Cup
AM, i'm a bit lost between G.Johnson/Y.Toure and Kompany/Bentlet! The reason is: I have G.Johnson at 10...
What do you think?
Cuy - he explained reasoning for dzeko in the post
"everyone will have him and I don't want to be the odd man out if he gets a surprise start or comes off the bench to score, plus his value could randomly jump after deadline & I don't want to miss out on him for 6.23"
AM, why Kolarov? I have him at like a 4-5 point discount as well, and I have kept him just incase, but lately it seems he is not getting the start over boateng/zabaleta, will Kolarov start?
Bentley/Heitinga or Wilshere/Gary Caldwell
Cuy, anon is correct, I had already said why Dzeko stays in my team! :)
As for Silva, Mancini said he was fit to play and all the press reports have him down as starting the game.
Cheers
As of now my team is:
Carson,
Kolarov, G.Johnson, Skrtel,
Lampard, Adam, Brunt, Yaya,
Torres, Tevez, Van Persie
I'll gladly take the zero from carson as i've been paying more than 5 for the past few weeks and getting negative points! I guess the only weak link in the team is Yaya as he will be pushed back by the 4-4-2 formation and the return of Silva!
Thoughts???
Rawad - Glen Johnson is not worth 10, Kompany/Bentley is the far better choice.
Mike - Why Kolarov? I have him at 4.4 so I'm prepared to wait a few weeks and check whether he's set to be 1st choice before jumping ship.
Hey Nik, what do you think?
G.Johnson/Yaya or kompany/Bentley?
Thanks mate...
Sounds good, that is pretty much what I have been doing as well, I never understood why he was dropped, I thought he was playing very well for awhile there.

If I have a reason to complain it is that I have a number of players on discounts that I don't want to waste, thereby limiting my options to move players. I'm bringing in Kolarov, Bale, Bentley and Dzeko at full price, but I have to kick Elmander, Malouda and Kelly out to do so. Losing Elmander is not something I'm very happy with..

Less than two weeks ago I declared Tevez as dead to me, after horrible 4.5 points at home to Blackpool. And yet he's there, on my team page. I hate having him as I'm certain he'll find a way to screw me over one again (a week before he didn't show up, I got his -0.5 on Week 13 and his 11 on Week 7 - WITH a goal - only when I picked him vs Bolton he did well...).
But I was stuck with 3.22mil extra, and I had Malouda who wasn't certain to play. I would take him if I were sure he'd play, as he started to return good phantom points lately, but this uncertainty isn't good for my sleep. And, of course, Tevez is a way to make sure I'm on the ManCity attack bandwagon even if Dzeko doesn't start.
Al-Habsi
Kolarov Koscielny Bosingwa
VDV Barton Lampard Bentley
RvP Dzeko Tevez
I know it's not really unique, but I haven't had any special ideas or gut feelings this week, so I'm playing it safe for now. My biggest worry is Bentley not starting, but I guess there'll be more updates about it later this day. Or not...

I like this team except for Kolorov. I have him at the discount but he's got to start this weekend.
So with Carroll out does Best start for Newcastle?
The report on mcfc.co.uk:
"New City striker Edin Dzeko is desperate to make his Blues debut against Wolves on Saturday."
I don't think Mancini can really deny him at least some playing time. I still think it's a good idea to snatch him up @6.23, even if he takes a match or two to settle in.
What are people's thoughts on Wayne Bridge? He'll finally get some playing time, and he's cheap. Then again, it is West Ham...so there won't be many clean sheet opportunities.
I prefer the look of your new team AM. I don't like taking non playing keepers, even if that does prevent a minus. Remember the 20 of Green a couple of weeks back... you never know with Arsenal and West Ham will get a few shots in I think...
Heitinga is better than a mere filler in my view. Liverpool aren't great at the back but Everton haven't set the world on fire going forward so I can see a clean sheet or even 2 here...
Dzeko is great value, he is bound to play even if he doesn't start...and what better options for 6 are available who are sure to start (Benjani, Santa Cruz, Sturridge just as big risks to not start for me...)
I think there are three spots left in my team currently occupied by Odemwingie, Davies M (Bolton) and Djourou. I'm not sold on keeping any of them. I'm currently banking on some random saturday selections to finalise my team.
my team is:
stockdale,
Kompany, G.caldwell,beardsley,
malouda, Adam, vdv, nasri,
odemwingie, Tevez,carroll @5.96
0.22 left to spend
any comments??
AM, you are keeping kolarov at discount with zero? so he is coming back soon?
travor J
Kolarov has missed enough games already, so i expect him to start with Zabaleta at right back. Boateng imo will be on the bench.
Ebi
I have Rooney at 14 as a discount. Should I keep him in my squad or drop him for RvP? I honestly think Rooney can score more against Tot than RvP. Arsenal sometimes has ghost problems with bad teams (esp on the road)
hey guys.. need some help!
what do you think? adam with no discount or nasri?
Kolarov is not injured, trevor. It's just Mancini's bad judgement that keeps the Serb out. As a City fan, I was hoping that the FA would turn down the appeal for Zabaleta's red card, but sadly...

@Crabs: Aww so AM didn't make it easy enough for you? Give me a break...
Final decision help...
J.Heitinga+ Defender @10.5
or
2 defenders at around 6?
Currently looking at Roger Johnson, Bardsley,Kompany, Kolorov, maybe Hangeland if I go with first option. I like Birm to possibly keep a CS as Villa's form that bad. Chelsea could get it together defensively, no? M City too.
Looking to gamble in a try to take first in private league with:
scz
kosceilny, +2
vdv,adam,lamps,nani
rvp,sturridge,dzeko
Front line risky for sure, but my immediate competition doesn't gamble so if either of those two hit, could be good for me. Or could blow up in my face as with some of the previous weeks.
Strange season this one seems to me. - Yoda
There's nothing wrong with what crabs said, do you need to speak up for Nik every single time.
Reply anonymous@7.35pm
Yes I believe for the sake of convenience of all dedicated supporters and readers who check back every now and then would appreciate it. Many of us are quite used to reading updates in red/bold fonts, considering that AM usually does that in older posts. However, I'm not surprised that someone so thick-headed like you would understand that one small action by one individual would help thousands of people who are grateful in return.

super coach.
Hey Crabs - at some point during the past 8 hours every single piece of information above was updated, so if you want me to highlight things I update in red font I will, but the whole thing would then be in red, so that wouldn't really help would it? :)
But I see what you mean...usually I post stuff in the morning and then add updates throughout the day below that. This week I decided to give one big overall picture of each team which I constantly updated - I'd like to hear feedback on which one readers prefer?
@Doreamon - Those are two very close pairs. I'd probably go Torres/Bentley, but that's just a hunch. Brunt/Elmander seems like the safer play.
@supercoach - May depend on how you view each guy, but I'd consider moving Gyan to Bent with the extra money. Or perhaps Koscielny to Bosingwa.
Right now I have:
Hart
Coleman, Kolarov, A. Cole
VDV, Nani, Lampard, Adam, Bentley
Van Persie, Dzeko
Still have 2.92 in the bank, this is a lineup I really like though. Was sitting on Koscielny as the third defender. With so many extra points to spend, felt like I had to upgrade to A. Cole since I can't quite get to Baines. I dropped from Brunt to Bentley just on a gut feel. Adam is the guy I probably have the least faith in, but with a double week coming up and a small discount, I'll keep him in for now. Kolarov is at too big of a discount to give up this quickly. I hope Man City puts him back in the lineup.
Cech's Mates
Szczesny, Huth, Torres
or
Myhill, Coleman, Anelka. please help...;)
cheers
AM & Blog, do I drop either Nani or VdV for this upcoming fixture? Lamps and Nasri fill out the remainding slots in my midfield.
Cheers
marco
@Rawad, G.Johnson as a full back can go up and get goals .. a much better choice than kompany although he is in my team.
@gaius marius, omg...no malouda, how come malouda suddenly fall out of favour? Or is he injured or wat... i need to take a closer look at the chelsea news!!!
@Mikey, although best has a brilliant 1st match, that does not mean that he will score hat-tricks in every match. Don't you agree? Who is he by the way? Sounds more like an unheard actually.
@Doraemon, I would choose torres and bentley. Torres although not in great form but can still give you an average of 7-10. Bentley is dirt cheap n he will surely start n he will be on set pieces!
Don't see why Dzeko wouldn't start, plus i can't quite get to Tevez without unbalancing my team. N'zogbia and Brunt were the guys i really wanted but couldn't bring myself to drop Lampard and especially Nasri. So
Al Habsi
Kolarov Agger Zabaleta
Nani VdV Lamp Nasri Bentley
VanPersie Dzeko
@Chuck, can I ask what is DG week?
@ebi s., you are right bro. I also don't see why dzeko is not starting. Adebayor out of favour, cruz is loaned out, balotelli injured, Jo usually starts in midfield. So dzeko shld start!
Is the above a spammer's attack?
@The Greek, I am just giving my opinions. And to answer your questions, I am not a spammer. If I am, I would have done that to the other blog posts as well. See my comments above. Are they worthless? Did I give my inputs?
Jo in midfield???!!! I hope you mean (Ad)Jo, otherwise, not such a wise info...!!!
@ AM - Keep it up bro ;). Whatever format your updates are they are better than any on net!!!
Btw, what do you guys think?
1. Szczesny/Bosingwa/Meireles;
2. Cech/MKelly/Dorrans (Kelly was praised by KDalg; I also have Brunt) or
3. Cech/Jara(GCaldwell)/BWatson
Which options seems better?
Cheers
will santa cruz start against chelsea?
Posting six times in the row in order to advertise yourself.... Yes i consider you a spammer.
End of discussion.

I would seriously advise anyone to get bentley n bridge this week or on the barndoor for nxt wk. Really cheap n star-like additions which will allow u with more money to spend on the higher quality players. Any takes?
OK,
1. Dzeko +Kompany OR
2. Bent + Heitinga
I am dropping either set ten minutes after the deadline to get DGW players. This is another downside to Dzeko beyond whether he starts (I think he will)--
I remember how it took a lot of sputtering starts for Silva before he became a regular (more or less) at Citeh. Anyway thanks in adv.
Torres + Cech
or
Tevez + Reina / a keeper with similar value
?

Anon from Anon above, I like Torres and Cech-- just because Reina has been a disaster (maybe not fair to Reina's play, but the points aren't there)
devil
Thanks, but maybe not much help, as the Mirror also says Dzeko is tipped by Mancini to start. So again just a gamble because our YFF deadline unlike Yahoo American FF is not 10 minutes before kickoff.
Frankly I think everyone expensive starts, money talks.
My team so far:
Szczy
Kola, Coleman, Heitinga
VdV, Lamp, Nasri, Nani, Adam
Benjani, Dzeko
It's interesting... I have 7 players AM has, but his other 4 are worth about 8 units more than my other 4, showing how much more efficient he's been with his spending. That's the difference between my 3,700th standing and his so near the top.
AM has Bentley, RvP, Tevez, and Bale instead of my Coleman, Nasri, Benjani and Nani.
Szczesny
Kolarov Carr Heitinga
Nani VDV Lampard Bentley
VanPersie Tevez Dzeko
Any suggestions? I thought of having Koscielny instead of Carr but his points sucks even with CS.
Anon--- with Carr and Heitinga-----
You are going to score over 100 or under 55 with that team-- no in between. I haven't a clue as to which outcome. Good luck.

AM has posted about the double gameweeks in his player pick posts...
"Anyway, moving on to Week 23 we are back to a standard single game for all twenty teams, before another double in Week 24 (for Liverpool & Blackpool again, along with Man Utd, Aston Villa, Fulham & Wigan), so remember that when you're doing your barndoor work!"
but if you ever feel the urge to try find these things out for yourself, try the fixture list on the premier league website.
JC
Why all the doubts over Kolarov? If I remember correctly he was only left out due to knocks and a red card.
I expect Dzeko to start off the bench. He will have more of an impact leading the line when Wolves have worn themselves out closing City down. Mancini might as well allow Dzeko 45/60 mins to watch Premiership football up close before he bloods him. Still plenty of time for him to bag a brace, so he's in my squad. City will walk this one.
I'm don't share the enthusiasm in Wayne Bridge. He has been lacklustre ever since he joined City.
Bentley may struggle with the pace of Villa so I will probably wait for the Barndoor.
Tevez has been having an attack of the Chamakhs in front of goal recently, so I am staying clear.

Kolarov Coleman Koscielny

According to reports, Kolarov did not track back enough when Philips came on as a sub in the game v Blackpool. Philips supposedly gave Kolarov a torrid time, so Mancini hauled him off early in the 2nd half. There were no reports of injuries whatsoever on Kolarov.
In the subsequent game v Arsenal, Zabaleta started in place of Kolarov. He did very well, keeping Walcott very quiet. If I remember well enough, he was beaten by Walcott's pace a number of times, but tracked back well enough to make the final interception before Walcott could pull the trigger for a cross or shot (until he got sent off).
Kolarov though did start the next game v Leicester in the FA cup. IMHO, although he did better at tracking back this time, he could have been better at defending, and it's against Championship opponent (no disrespect to Leicester fans).
Doesn't matter. Most important is how Mancini thinks, and how he lines up the defence against opponents. Perhaps, Kolarov has worked hard enough in training to regain the first choice, who knows.
Just my 2 cents worth...
@ Kiko the first option....by a country mile
Kolarov will start, no doubts there. You're right with all you said but he made a mistake and he's been warned. Problem is who'll play at right back Zabaleta or Boateng? If kolarov was poor a couple of games, Boateng has been poor all season, imo he'll be the one on the bench.
On a slightly different matter. I can't think of any player that can replace Kolarov at leftback. I think it's the most difficult position to fill, A.Cole and Evra, who'll i'll rate as the best in that position have not been spectacular.
Most of the players who play in that position are just very good going forward. Ac Milan, Inter, Barca, RealMADRID, Arsenal, none of them have a good player in that position.
@Kiko the first option. Drogba may not start.
@Motty Get RvP before his price jumps 18+.
@Anon6:28 A lot of today's top clubs don't use true wingers on their natural side but instead use AMs or wingers on the other side (Messi, etc.) that cuts into the center early. This packing reduces width of the attack so attacking fullbacks are employed to keep the pressure. Really these fullbacks should be classified as wingbacks.
santa cruz still listed as MC forward. will his points be counted if i pick him and he starts for blackburn?
My Team
Hart
Bale - Kompany - Kolarov
Van der Vaart - Barton - Nasri - Etuhu - Bentley
Elmander - Sears
@Sk i disagree. Marcelo is good going forward but is not good at defending, Madrid have been looking for a leftback for a while. Most of the clubs i mentioned will sign immediately if they can find good leftbacks. Chivu @ Inter is not good going forward or defending.
kompany/Bentley or Heitinga/Nasri?
anelka or c adam or anyone else for 11.37??
also silva+koscielny or salgado+bentley??
Bentley's got to be in the team. When he's playing well and on kicks he's a 15 points a game man even without scoring goals. He should get loads of playing time at Brum too.
Bridge is a gamble, won't get many clean sheets but when he's on fire he's a rampaging full back who likes to join in attacks. There's a bit of the headless chicken about him sometimes but hey, Yahoo doesn't deduct points for headless chickenness...
And Dzeko, get him in early doors I say. You never know if Yahoo's points algorithm will change his value even before the Man City game (like it does sometimes). Get him in early, get him in cheap, he's built for the premier league and knows where the goal is, unlike Balotelli who's the laziest multimillion forward I've ever seen (and that includes Duncan Ferguson and Faustino Asprilla!).
Out.
PLEASE COMMENT MY TEAM:
gk: szczesny
def: bale coleman koscielny
mid: lampard VDV eboue(filler) silva nasri
frd: dj campbell and bent
or should I remove eboue and change him to dzeko?
PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP?!
what about Best for Newcastle? Played well against West Ham in Carling Cup.
http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/team-news/
van persie doubtful??
will kalou play?
Pop thy collar- fyi Balotelli has a better goals average than Dzeko and i can name 2 strikers from each premier league team that Balotelli is better than. He's lazy, been playing with an injury and not as bad as you make him out to be. HATER
* Sorry it was not Carling Cup, but was premier league game when Best scored a hat-trick!
And also i'll make sure i drop all the players you've mentioned, i have a feeling none of them will perform this week.
@Sk i disagree. Marcelo is good going forward but is not good at defending, Madrid have been looking for a leftback for a while. Most of the clubs i mentioned will sign immediately if they can find good leftbacks. Chivu @ Inter is not good going forward or defending.
