Week 5 - Player Picks

Firstly, I want to make it clear that for the 800 teams in the eight blog leagues, Week 5 is Round 1 of The 2010/11 Blog Cup. If you don't know what I'm talking about, please read my previous post here.

With that out of the way, I'll move on to the Champions League - and I was a very proud Spurs fan last night as the club made their debut in the competition's group stage.

We made an unbelievable start and at 2-0 were coasting, but a moment of madness from Assou-Ekotto led to Werder Bremen grabbing a goal back before half-time and the inevitable pressure led to an equaliser straight after the break. It was a cracking game though, end to end, both sides could've won it but I certainly would've taken a draw before the match...a solid start to the campaign!

The 2010/11 Blog Cup

It's that time again...The 2010/11 Blog Cup:

800 team, 8 rounds, 1 winner!

At points throughout the season we will have weekends where the Top Weekly Scores from our EIGHT blog leagues go through to the "next round". It's a knockout so once you're out, you're out!

Last year our winner was Stephane's FrenchCannons, who pipped Alex's Supermassive FC by just 0.5 points...could it be that close again this year...?

Week 4 - Saturday

Put simply, a fantastic day of football - the English Premier League may not be of the technical quality of La Ligua, but I still think it beats all others for pure excitement. For evidence look not further than Everton v Manchester United, the lunchtime kick-off yesterday.

It wasn't just the final 3 minutes that made the game, it was the entire 90 that proceeded it. It was cracking match, end to end, chances galore, tackles flying in, great goals, bad errors, fantastic saves and of course, an unbelievable comeback from the Toffees. 3-3, Alex Ferguson fuming as United blow a two-goal lead, Moyes fuming because Everton could've won it only for the ref to blow for full-time, outstanding drama, great stuff!

I hate having money left over, but this week I have 2.92 remaining in the bank, probably the most I've ever left unused. I was on the verge of making some changes in order to use up the remaining funds, but after some discussions in the chat room last night I realised I shouldn't be making changes just for the sake of it, so I stuck with what I had.

Week 4 - Updates

Ok, much to update you on since my Week 4 Player Picks post on Wednesday.

First of all, you'll notice that there have been fluctuations in player prices due to some new players being added to the game. This may annoy some of you who had not yet saved your team, as Harper is now above 5, Vermaelen above 10 and Adam Johnson up to 8 (to name but a few). I'd not saved my team but luckily can still keep the one I had planned. Only just mind you...my 1.64 in the bank dropping to 0.14 after increases overnight.

The only new players currently added are those who have previously been on the game - Gallas, Hleb, Pennant. Whether Van Der Vaart, Gyan etc are added today we'll have to wait and see, but I suggest saving your team ASAP before we see any more price changes.  
UPDATE: As I was writing this post new players HAVE been added (VDV 5.53, Squillaci 5.83, Gyan 6.42)

Week 4 - Player Picks

It's only Week 4, but I'm starting to get really frustrated with the organisation of Yahoo's Fantasy Football game this season...and I'm sure I'm not alone!

We've already had numerous technical issues with pricing, points and delays since the season began, and now we're having to deal with another ...the (non) addition of new players. I know we still have 3 days until the Week 4 deadline and there is a chance they could be added before then, but the transfer window closed 7 full days ago and there's still no sign of Van Der Vaart, no sign of Gyan, no sign of Squillaci, Hleb, Gallas etc. In my opinion it's just not good enough.

Walcott Injured

Not good news for those of us holding Theo around the 8 mark, and you have to feel sorry for him after his great start to the season......

Arsenal's Theo Walcott was taken to hospital to have an x-ray on his ankle after he was injured in England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Switzerland.

Walcott's right ankle was injured in the build-up to Wayne Rooney's opening goal for England after ten minutes, which the Arsenal player helped set up - picking out Glen Johnson on the wing, who sent over a low cross for Rooney to turn in.

England also suffered another injury in the build-up to their second goal, scored by Adam Johnson, with Spurs striker Jermain Defoe being stretchered off and replaced by Darren Bent. It is not clear how serious Defoe's injury is. 

Week 4 Player Picks will be up tomorrow evening, but Walcott's injury means it's back to the drawing board for my team if he's due to spend some times on the sidelines. It looked quite bad so I'd be very surprised if he makes the Bolton game.

Home Again

I returned from my holiday earlier today, so thought I'd put up a quick post to catch up with you all, with my regular posts (looking at Week 4) to begin from Monday onwards once I have a chance to look at all the options.

The break was just what I needed - sunshine, great food, great mates, great beer/wine, but I must admit I missed the footy massively...despite Spurs blowing their good start to the season vs Wigan. I caught the England game last night, where Rooney appears to be approaching some form and Defoe showed a masterclass of finishing, but you've to feel sorry for Michael Dawson, that looked awful :(

Anyway, I asked my girlfriend to post up the Week 3 - My Team, and much to my surprise she was actually able to do this successfully, so I've just finished getting through all the comments and reviewing how my team did. 108.5 points moved me towards the 3000th, which tells me I had an above average week but I completely missed the barndoor. The AM Blog Team scored 83 points, so is currently struggling in 16000th, but we'll pull it back I'm sure!

To allow me to catch up, I'd like to know...how did you do in Week 3? Where has this left you overall in the rankings? And who did you pick up on the barndoor for Week 4?
