Week 33 - My Team

Cech

Carr   Heitinga   Luiz   A.Cole

Ferguson   Wilshire   Lampard

Phillips   Van Persie   Torres

As we've all agreed in the chatroom & in the comments, this has easily been the toughest week of the season to pick a team. And as you can see, I've made big changes since yesterday. I now have 10 DGers; 5 Chelsea, 3 Birmingham, 2 Arsenal + Heitinga. I don't really like it but I think I may've felt that way no matter which way I'd gone.

The big news is I left out Drogba! I decided he might only start one of the two games with Torres starting the other, so I couldn't justify spending almost £20m on him - it could be the decision that makes or breaks my season. Cech is in so I'm really banking on two Chelsea wins & I probably have too many fillers (+ I dropped Kolarov) but in the end I just tried to get as many DGers in as possible... crazy things can happen when players play twice in a week!

Next week Fulham, Bolton, Stoke & Wolves play twice, but as none of them play this week you don't have worry too much about the barndoor. Also worth noting, it seems Yahoo have changed the 7 game rule for price increases to 8 games, so grab Suarez before he plays if you want him in future weeks - he's likely to shoot up to £15m.

Let me know what you settled on. Good luck!

Cheers,
AM

Don't really like that, but I can't work out a better solution

  9. Very happy with my team, got 9 DGers + Adam & Howard, no Drogba either though. Any one had any early thoughts for next week's team? Here's what I've quickly barn doored:

    Kingson
    Luiz, Huth, Cahill
    Adam, Benayoun, Valencia, Jarvis
    Torres, Sturridge, Suarez
    3.6 left in bank

Only have 4 DGers at the moment (Huth, Cahill, Jarvis, Sturridge), but it's an early platform to pick up others as values change. I'll keep Torres and wait and see how the DG works out - if he continues to perform poorly I can drop him for Dempsey or someone similar. I'd love to have Begovic or Schwarzer in goal, but both are pricey.

  12. Green
    Luiz / Koscielny / Heitinga
    Adam / Nasri / Ferguson / Lampard
    K. Phillips / Drogba / Hernandez

Taking a huge risk with Green I know (especially if Parker is out) but I need to move up. He's had two minus games in a row and hasn't had three since the start of the season. No last minute changes! Good luck to all.

  14. good morning, i have
    ben foster
    luiz, carr, heitinga
van der vaart, walcott, bowyer, wilshere
    van persie, drogba, jerome

i think walcott has a hugher upside than cesc because he can score goals, gets assists, crosses and shots, while cesc can only get it through assists, even though cesc is playing great, he is not the same fantasy player, with van persie taking all the penalties and kicks.

My team is ridiculously unbalanced with only 7 DGers and too much filler. I'm not happy but hope it works out. I elected to take the 0 from Sturridge because he's on fire and has 2 matches next week. I wound up going with Hitz in the hopes that he does better once than Ferguson will do twice.

  27. Now I'm not usually one for complaing about points as I understand that Yahoo have their own way of doing things but SURELY Hitz should've been awarded assist points today. There was no deflection, just a clean header straight to Keane who then scored. I know it's only 4pts but still...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Never thought Carr would get 13pts, just goes to show how unpredictable this game is. Torres and Benayoun failed miserably, hopefully they get more game time in the next game.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Claude, yahoo(OPTA) wrongly credit the assist to Nobel not Hitz. Check soccernet and yahoo game stats u will see that. Yes, I want my 4 pts back too!

    -Brian

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, Nik is right. If Demba Ba is any indication of what will happen to Suarez, get him before he plays if you want him cheap!

Ba came on in the 63rd minute, scored only 5 points, but more than doubled in price to over 14! Must be his 8th week?

I already snatched up Suarez. And, while I was at it, I added Sturridge who is, I think, a no-brainer for the double week? Am I right?

Yes, I know he's not playing, so it wasn't necessary to BD him, but I had to drop Drogba to fit in Suarez, and had to do something with all that extra cash!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Greginho has Forster in goal, and he's never in disguise, hope that makes you feel better?

    ReplyDelete
  34. The up coming dg is certainly not appealing, i even prefer sg.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 70 points with 10 potentials to go. Good points from Foster, who at 6 is fantasy player of the year I reckon. I think this is the first time ever I've got points from Lampard!

    ReplyDelete
  36. as for next week
    foster,
    luiz, salcido, shawcross
    valencia, dempsey, petrov, etherington
    rooney, gyan, dembele

may do CYL and Zamora for Dembele and Etherington

  37. how ironic this would be. arsenal are looking to buy ben foster. it would be strange having him at arsenal since i have had foster all but 5 weeks. he would be a great addition for wenger. sign him please.

  38. @Claude + Brian: Fully agreed. I also chose Hitz and as far as I can tell it was a clean assist. Yahoo usually catch such blaring errors but not until mid week does it get corrected.

On another note, Drogba was only creditited with 1 Sot when he clearly had 2. The second coming after carson failed to hold drogbas shot which lead to kalous goal.

This is just something I have come to expect from yahoo but its honestly getting very frustrating. 7 points is so crucial as most of my leagues are so tight.

Pull your finger out of your ass already yahoo. . . .

    ReplyDelete
  39. @kellz - Yahoo gets their stats from Opta, so maybe the mistakes aren't theirs?

But, yes, I agree. Every point counts right now! So, as you said, pull your finger out of your ass already, Yahoo and/or Opta!

    ReplyDelete
  40. On another note ... Stoke are just SPANKING Bolton right now, 5-0! What does this mean for the upcoming double? Jussi is not looking like a good pick at all!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Holy moly, when you score the first goal of the game in the 98th minute you'd usually expect to hold on for the win wouldn't you. What an end to the game!
I wish Fab had taken the pen though

  42. Arsenal just got robbed... again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I hate those senseless yellow cards. So he took his shirt off, so what!!! Geez, come on, we need all those points. Keep your shirt on RvP!

Yes, crazy finish. Never seen anything like it, or 12 minutes of added time before!

    ReplyDelete
  44. If by robbed you mean Eboue dumbass pushing over lucas no matter how easily he fell over. Bottom line you live the the ref you die by the ref. Lesson learned?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lucas made no attempt to play the ball nor did he ever have control of it. He side stepped into Eboue instead of playing the ball and if you would call that a penalty then I don't see why players should play the ball at all.

If you would like to respond to my argument, then please leave a name.

    ReplyDelete
  46. SK - blatant penalty for me. You should be blaming Eboue in my opinion, not Lucas or the ref. I wanted Arsenal to win as it would keep Liverpool further away from Spurs, but I think the Scousers deserved a point today.

    ReplyDelete
  47. SK:
so, seeing that Lucas did not have control of the ball, had his back to goal and basically no options with time all but expired, why did Eboue bother getting so close to him? Especially running at him too fast, which made it easy to collide? It doesn't matter what Lucas's position was, you can't barge people over in the box like that. Plain & simple: completely stupid brainless, needless play by Eboue.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Suarez jumped from 7.20 to 17.59!!! I hope you got him in time ...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Why are you guys responding to sk, silence is the best answer to a fool.

    ReplyDelete
  50. thanks for the info the Suarez price rise. got him just in time ! :)) . just checking Bale's stats in advance of his player of yr award tonite. unbelievably just 1 assist !!!. checked it to official prem stats & it is correct. gulp ! just think what his price & average ( currently 18.25 & 12.15 respectively ) would be if he did get assists !!

    S.P.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bale is a great player, but it is a joke if he is awarded the player of the year, especially when a player like Nani isn't even nominated. Such blatant pro-Britain bias.

Bale would be the most undeserving winner ever, the hype around him ceased being based on performances months ago. What is he getting the award for exactly? Scoring a hat trick against Inter Milan when they were 4-0 up and had switched off? Yes I will admit that was a great moment, but it was one fucking game, and it wasn't even in the premier league!

I appreciate the spurs team and their achievements, but the media love fest around them has become quite sickening, quite frankly I hope they fail to finish in the top 4 just so I can stop hearing the biased media go on and on about how "brave" and "courageous" they are to be humiliated 5-0 by Real Madrid in the biggest ever CL defeat of an English team.

    ReplyDelete
  52. @ BZA - I agree completely. So sick of the Bale hype, 7 goals and 1 assists in 26 games says it all.

Anybody thinking about next weekend's games yet? I've done some early barn door work, lots of options, currently sitting on this:

    Szczesny (@5.5)
    Luiz, Salcido, Wilson
    Dempsey, Adam, Jarvis, Pennant
    Suarez(@7.2), Sturridge, Hernandez

I'm actually quite happy with how this looks, 6 DGers + some good match-up players. I would like Darren Bent but 13.57 seems too much, Robert Huth is attractive but expensive, Sturridge seems a must-buy given recent form. I've dropped RVP which could make or break the rest of my season as he has now gone up to 21.11, keeping faith with Charlie Adam (for now).

  53. seeing bale like one big ape try to dribbling a ball..

    ReplyDelete
  54. On ARSE losing-- with the lead,...NO fouls in the last 10 seconds whether it be basketball, football, etc. Terrible play by Eboue, .. brilliantly done by Lucas and the no actual clock rule which gives the ref too much authority to extend time as he feels.

76 with VDV (I still believe) to go and another 9 DGWs. Wilshere and Santa "no shot" Cruz did poorly for me.
    Arizona.

    ReplyDelete
  55. So it's just been confirmed Bale has won the PFA Player of the Year. What a ridiculous decision.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Premier League Team of the Year:
    Van Der Sar (Man Utd),
Sagna (Arsenal), Cole (Chelsea), Vidic (Man Utd), Kompany (Man City
Nani (Man Utd), Nasri (Arsenal), Wilshere (Arsenal), Bale (Tottenham),
Tevez (Man City), Berbatov (Man Utd).

How do these guys align with Yahoo fantasy wise?

Where is Baines???? better than Cole by a huge margin in fantasy and reality. IMHO.

    ReplyDelete
  57. @Arsenal v Liverpool debate: I must say its a bit of a double edged sword, 1 point a piece doesn't really help either side. Arsenal hoped for 3 pts to keep pressure on Utd and their title hopes alive, and Liverpool needed 3 points to pull within 2 pts of Spurs to keep their European hopes alive.

As Per the game, Liverpool looks well comfortable to contend with Arsenals attacking force, which lacked decisive attacking penetration especially against a defense that fielded Flannigan (18), had Robinson (17) introduced on 22min, and Kyrgiakos (lumbering fool) introduced for Cara after was knocked out cold. The fact of the matter is, Arsenal for all their wealth of attacking talent and skill, couldn't breakdown a patch work defense in the regular 90min and needed an extra time PK to even get on the score sheet.

It was absolutely a foul by Eboue, it was a soft, but Lucas made the most of it like ANY FOOTBALL PLAYER WOULD DO, and Arsenal only have themselves to blame. If you rely on the ref, the ref can burn you.

Bottomline, I don't think this result gives Utd the title, but it hampers Arsenal. I still hope they push on for the title and we can push on for Europe.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well said Kellz.

Bit of shock over Bale, but I think it had much to do with the ending period for voting in Feb (I heard) plus ripping Inter and putting Tot on the map in the CL, that was still a stunning performance- his three g's..

    ReplyDelete
  59. Absolutely. However it should have gone to Nani

  61. Arsenal played like they does'nt want to win the game last night. Its time to drop player that dont have desire to play the ball. Arshavin-Eboue. Give more to Denilson, Bendtner. Song should play every game now. He is the key of midfielder.

No team deserve a win afternoon. Both team suxx!!
