Week 9 - Update

All eyes on Carlo Ancelotti as we await his press conference at around noon today - praying he names his team as he has done on multiple occasions during his Chelsea career. This post will be updated as soon as I hear more.

UPDATE: Bosingwa to start at right-back, Drogba also starts, while Alex, Lampard & Ramires are out...waiting on more news but this could mean a start for Zhirkov alongside Essien & Mikel in midfield.

Wayne Rooney has done a giant U-turn and has signed a new 5 years deal at Old Trafford days after saying he wanted to leave. I honestly didn't think it was all about money but it turned out I was wrong, as he bluffed his way to an even bigger salary. I'll be interested to know what the Man Utd fans make of all this. He's out for 3 weeks with an ankle injury by the way.

Redknapp has revealed Sandro and Van Der Vaart will come back in but has suggested Bale is "running on empty", which could point to him being rested. My personal opinion is Bale will start, he's in the form of his life and he's a young lad who should be raring to go after 48 hours rest.

In other news I feel I must reiterate this point - Chris Kirkland WILL PLAY this weekend as Al-Habsi cannot play against his parent club Bolton, so if you are picking him @ 1.00 with the plan to take zero you'll need to think again. I'm taking the risk with him as are many others, but some of the comments in my player picks post suggested some people hadn't yet realised the Kirk will be back in the Wigan team...no harm in clarifying!

Peter Odemwingie was one of the most interesting Week 9 picks, but apparently he's still struggling with injury so it's unlikely he'll be ready to face Fulham.

Adebayor scored a hat-trick for Man City last night and Mancini has suggested he may go 4-4-2 vs Arsenal giving K2 the chance to be paired with Tevez against his old club. We all remember how that ended last season. To add to the confusion, both Silva and AJ played last night, so we really don't know which one starts. Silva's form has been good so he could get the nod (I'm assuming Milner gets one of the winger spots after he was rested).

Cameron Jerome could return for Birmingham, and if he does it's possible Zigic drops to the bench despite his first goal last weekend.

Arteta is doubtful, while Osman joins Louis Saha, Victor Anichebe, Marouane Fellaini, Jack Rodwell and Steven Pienaar on the sidelines. This means Bily could get a rare start.

That's it for now - please keep checking back throughout the day as I'll be adding any important team/injury news to this post. If you read/hear anything you feel may be of use please add it to the comments section below.

How's your team coming along? What news are you waiting on? Please remember you still have time to vote, poll closes at 4pm UK time: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/505502

Cheers,

  12. I personally think el nino might give some great points this week when they meet Blackburn at Anfield. I will put my money on him. My current team look like this:

    KIRKLAND

    BALE
    SALCIDO
    KOCHENSKY

    VDV
    C. ADAM
    ZOGBIA
    MALOUDA

    CHAMAKH
    EL NINO

  14. we wont know what gonna happen tomorrow. Sometimes we should take a risk to win this competition. Nobody can predict what will happen. Maybe Drogba just can play a few minutes and injured himself. Or maybe he can score 5 goals against Wolves. Same goes to El Nino. I never put him in my team. Just wanted to try my luck.. Just my 2 cents :-)

  15. I'm hung up on just one last forward pick. Currently have Chamakh(@7.52), but have 2.05 in the bank. Considering any one of:

    Elmander
    Carroll
    Kalou (not starting, it seems)
    Obinna
    Dembele
    Pavlyuchenko
    Chicharito

Although, Cesc is set to start, so it might mean more chances for Chamakh.

    Any thoughts?

    Currently:
    Jussi
    Boateng-Jacobsen-Zhirkov
    FloMa-Adam-VdV-Nani
    Drogba-Chamakh-Piquionne

Also, should I switch Jacobsen for Bosingwa and risk 2 Chelsea defenders? Unfortunately I'm 0.02 short of switching Zhirkov to Bosingwa.

  22. rooney, don't care he's going: don't care he's staying. just so long as he's not a city player!

@kwj i'm in the same boat 10 and a bit for a striker:
    odemwingie - injured?
dembele - not a good match up
    obina - everyone has him
    carroll - inconsistent
    kalou - unlikely to play
    elmander - dead to me
i like your idea for hernandez then i can upgrade elsewhere.

    ReplyDelete
  23. This week litteraly sucks...

I'm tempted to drop FloMa since I have no fucking idea if he's going to play. However, if he plays he is a must have.

    Same goes with Zhirkov.

I'm holding on to Obinna up front, paired with Drogs. But I need a third option for less than 10. However, there are no good options. As seen above, Odem injured, Dembele naaah, Carroll naah, kalou on the bench, elmander is my least favourite player out there. He's just rubbish(yea, I'm Swedish).

On the other hand, it's weeks like those I usually score high... But I still hate them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. agree with Naning. ancelotti's silence is worrying. you can only assume some big players will be rested. anelka or malouda etc. i've switched malouda to gerrard due to certainty of playing. just gonna have to cross fingers on anelka. can't risk zhirkov either .

out on a ridiculous limb here, but chelsea havent let a goal in for almost 700 minutes at the bridge and I have a feeling zhirkov will play. drogba not going to be back on top fitness and sturridge to come on for him and score a brace. absolute bollocks, but you never know.

Team name: DIMITAR BERBATOV FC [AM.Blog]

I'm really unhappy to have dropped out of the Blog cup but I will bounce back! After the first week I was in the top 100 but currently I'm just outside of the first 1000! Since the differencies are really small I hope to join top 500 this week.

    My saved team is:

    Kirk
    Coleman,Bosingwa,Salcido
    VdV,Adam,Mereiles,Silva
    Berb,Drogs,Torres

I love my team and I won't change it!

  29. @Anon 4:32 - I've been wondering that myself. I read chelseafc.com, and it doesn't mention anything about Malouda. But, according to FantasyFootballScout, they say Ancelotti announced the starting 11, and they have Malouda listed.

Where do they show the starting 11? I don't see it anywhere, so I'm not sure. All I see is a press conference video, but when I click play, it just says 'buffering' and never starts.

    ReplyDelete
  49. @anon 7:38--Gardner has one more game to serve on his suspension before he can return. He will not play this weekend.

@anon 7:35--Mikel's returns are low even when Chelsea demolish their opponents, so stick with Jacobsen.

@Jerinho: Because of his attacking style of play, Bosingwa is likely to bring decent returns even if he does not qualify for clean sheet points.

Don't know about your funds but i like forwards from 2 line-up, but midfield from the 1st. AJ Silva - one of them should definitely be on the bench, in case of 1st line-up you also can end up with 2 city players not starting, or at least one + zhirkov not a clear starter, though i have him in my lineup, if you could fit brunt into 2nd lineup, i would definitely go with that

  71. @anon 5:39: Liverpool have disappointed me time after time so if I had a hunch I would pick either one over the other, but why not? I am not so sure about Malouda, though. There's a chance that he won't start, so it might be safer to pick Drogba/Anelka/Essien.

@Ganja: Kalou have been getting quite impressive returns for a guy starting on the bench most of the time. Even if he starts on the bench, if Chelsea gets up early, he's likely to come on in early for Malouda, so maybe he's a good idea
