Week 24 - Update

I usually write my full update post on Friday afternoons, but so far there has been very little relevant news & I'm about to head out with work on a "team bondage bonding" afternoon, bowling and drinking beer, so I'm not sure if I'll get the chance to get all the team & injury news to you until later tonight.

Until then I have added a link to each fixture below, which will take you through to Yahoo's Matchpack page. Yahoo update these pages with the latest news coming out of the manager's press conference's throughout the day, so it should come in useful...

Wolves v Liverpool
Arsenal v Wigan
Blackpool v Sunderland
Everton v West Ham
Fulham v Stoke
Man Utd v Birmingham
Newcastle v Tottenham
Aston Villa v Man City
Blackburn v West Brom
Bolton v Chelsea

As for my own team, I can't put together anything I'm really happy with as I'm badly hamstrung by the money invested in Bale & RvP, but I refuse to budge as there's still 14 weeks to go & those discounts will come in extremely handy! This is what I'll probably go with:

Reina, Caldwell, Kolarov, Bale, Anderson, VDV, Adam, Nani, Dembele, RvP, Torres

I'm almost certain I'll settle on Torres over Bent due to the better fixtures for Liverpool, so Walker has to be downgraded to Caldwell & Anderson comes in as a filler. He was rested at Spurs so he has a decent chance of starting one game and could feature in both, so for 4.7 I could do a lot worse. Dembele is my one big doubt - if team news can't confirm his starting status he'll probably go for Watson, Dzeko or Santa Cruz. I'm obviously missing great picks such as Meireles & Rooney, but I can't do anything about that unfortunately.

I'll be back tonight (probably very drunk) to update you on any major news you need to know. Until then, please let me know how your team is looking as we move within 24 hours of the biggest double-week of the season so far!

Cheers,
AM

    Reina
    Kolarov/Pantsil/Ferdninand
    Nasri/VDV/Adam/Meireles
    rvp/Rooney/Bent

A voice in my head keeps saying Glen Johnson but that would take too much restructuring. I could swap Pantsil for another Liverpool Defender like Agger or Walker. Agger might not make it through two games though.

  24. I had just finalized my team:

    REINA
    CALDWELL, SKRTEL, WALKER

Made some crazy decision to get rid off VDV from my team. I got a feeling that he might not get good point this week. Banking on 11 players from double gamers..

  38. problem, anon, is that i have bale @ 13, nasri @ 8 and foster @ 5 -- all of them discounts of 5+. if i dump then i can't bring them back. and all have decent runs of matches against weaker opposition coming. even foster -- it's united this week, but he's the highest average-scoring keeper in the game and has had some big weeks against tough competition. meanwhile reina is as likely to put up minus-5 as plus-5.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @gaius i love your team, don't change it. I have 7dgers and the remaining 4 are players i have on discounts. I dropped Nasri and Lampard because their discounts wasn't much.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have Torres on a 4 discount so id like to keep him but i dont want a zero this week while he is suspended so i'm torn !!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Frankly frank- you need to drop Torres because besides the suspension he's also out injured, early reports say he'll be out for a month.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not only is he suspended but he's alledgedly on a one-man mission to do a geological expedition on Mars, blasting off tonight at midnight.

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Anon 1:21am & @Paul:

    TORRES IS NOT SUSPENDED

The 5 Yellow Card rule was only up to 31st Dec 2010. From 1st January 2011 a player will need to reach 10 YCs before the second Sunday in April to get a 2 match ban. 15 YCs accumulation up to the last day of the season will get you a 3 match ban which will be carried over to the following season.

Torres received his 5th after 1st Jan 2011. He is available for both games in the upcoming double-week.

@Anon 8:24, it depends on your discount for VdV. If you have a discount of 6 or even 11, then by all means keep him. At any rate, i would personally stay away from berbatov.
@Anon 8:37 you should drop dzeko, he doesnt have a DG and his price is pretty much the same as last week, you can get him on BD
