Week 14 - Update

We've had a whole bunch of new injuries since Wednesday's player picks and plenty of news regarding some unlikely recoveries. I'm expecting the news to come thick and fast and I'm going to be constantly updating this post as the day goes on so you'll need to keep checking back to to ensure you're working with the latest information!

What we know at the moment...

Steven Gerrard will miss up to 4 weeks with the hamstring injury picked up late in England's latest international disappointment vs France. All of a sudden, that "stand-out" fixture vs West Ham doesn't look so easy.

Some brighter news for Liverpool - Fernando Torres will be fit after shaking off an ankle knock, while Martin Skrtel, Dirk Kuyt & Glen Johnson are also ready to return. This means one of my recommendations, young right-back Martin Kelly, will almost certainly find himself benched. I'm guessing Paul Koncheskey could find himself taking some set pieces in Gerrard's absence (if not, who else!?) & I expect Torres would be on penalties.

UPDATE Scott Parker is ill and is likely to miss the game. This is probably a bigger blow to West Ham than Gerrard is to Liverpool. Torres anyone?

Mixed reports on Charlie Adam, who was another player injured whilst representing his country in midweek. He's got a problem with his knee and wasn't able to train yesterday, but while Ian Holloway has put him as extremely doubtful for the home game vs Wolves, Adam himself think he'll be ready. Hopefully we'll have some clarification later today. UPDATE No further news, he's 50-50, but I'm leaning towards keeping him @ 5.4.

Matt Gilks is definitely out for 2-3 months with a broken knee-cap (ouch) so Kingston will continue in goal.

Things just keep getting worse; Chris Brunt injured his groin playing for Northern Ireland and is struggling to be fit for the weekend. My gut feeling is he's going to miss out as groin injuries take longer than three days to recover from, but again lets wait for the Di Matteo's press conference this afternoon. UPDATE Similar to Adam, we have no confirmation on Brunt but at his current price of almost £10m I'm going to steer clear of him.

We're still awaiting an update on the back spasm that caused Joe Hart to miss the France game. If he's set for a spell on the sidelines then Given becomes a very viable option at around £7m, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hart make a miraculous recovery. UPDATE Hart should be fit to play.

As we know, John Terry is continuing to have problems with a leg injury and reckons he could be out for weeks or maybe even months.

UPDATE I've just watched Ancelotti's press conference and Alex is fit to play but will require surgery soon. He'll partner Ivanovic in central defence. Zhirkov picked up an injury on international duty and is OUT. Malouda will drop back in to midfield with Ramires & Mikel, so I guess it'll be a front 3 of Kalou, Anelka, Drogba. Ancelotti hinted that Bosingwa will continue at right back despite playing 90 minutes for Portugal.

Tom Huddlestone is out for 3 months after Spurs decide he needed an ankle operation, so I expect Jenas, Palacios & Sandro to share the minutes until he recovers. Better news is Defoe & Lennon should be ready to return, at least to the bench for the North London derby.

UPDATE Rooney has a chance of starting on the bench but has not trained all week.

UPDATE Darren Bent could be fit for Sunderland, so would partner Gyan in a 4-4-2

UPDATE Fulham's Dembele is out for 3 weeks with an ankle injury

That's everything for now, please keep checking back & also add any injury news you hear/read to the comments section below to help your fellow blog readers (and me!).

How's your team looking in light of all this injury news?

Cheers,
AM

  2. Keep him if you've got him at a discount.

I was going with Brunt but I think I'll get shot if he's a doubt. Need points from everyone this week...

  3. haven't heard anything about VDV not playing. keep

  4. @GunnerArt - presumably Rooney will be on the bench at best? £16m is a lot of money for a sub

  6. if u had him on discount why not just keep him.
    i think he'll play

  7. No news on Rooney yet, only rumours in the press. As soon as I hear something official it'll be posted up but I'd think carefully before of splashing the cash on him straight away.

  8. Who do yas think will play in centre mid for Liverpool this weekend with Gerrard, Lucas and Cole out? Jovanovic or Poulson to partner Meireles?

    Hernandez or Macheda (Or neither?).

Who will play at midfield for Newcastle with both barton and Tiote suspended?

    Keep A Johnson and Malouda??

  10. Thanks AM and Pop. 15.69 is no small change, but even a 0 would better than Tevez and Torres combined last week!

About VdV, I would keep him and personally I will too whether he plays or not.

Re: Malouda has really suffered as a result of a shaky defence, unimposing/creative midfield and a struggling Drogba. He wouldn't be my pick.

Second one looks better as all home games, why not switch Davies with the much cheaper Hernandez?

Personally, I would be looking at Holden, Nasri, M. Petrov or Jarvis - all priced around your budget if you are not looking to upgrade elsewhere. Holden is solid most weeks and Nasri has looked impressive this season.

Does anyone have any news on who will start at right back for Man Utd, O'Shea, Brown or Rafael?

  31. can't beleive bosingwa is a doubt yet again due to ferreira. aaaaahh!. these 2 or 3 weeks have def been worst i can rememb for injuries/susp/rests. again 50% of my team has been in doubt. i switched torres to gerrard on wed aft. that put the curse on him ! so now back to torres. adam- was very tempted to sell this morn. think i talked me'self out of it. brunt is annoying too. better to know now though. with ars and man u getting key strikers back ( roon, rvp, bentdner ) it's just gonna get more difficult. i wouldn't be that surprised if nani got a mini-rest & was on bench.

    S.P.

  32. Thanks AM -- good work

  33. If Brunt is out then suddenly Dorrans becomes set piece king at West Brom...

If Zhirkov is out and Malouda moves into his place then does his attractiveness go up - I think he plays better coming from deeper...

Nani must be the premium pick of the week. I really really really wanted Milijas but just can't fit him in with Nani too...

I thought Allbrighton was tremendous v ManUre, reminded me of Ashley Young's BFAY days - he is in...

Anon I think Dunn is a big shout - one of my personal favourite players FFwise, like Adam, takes and controls everything from the middle, and gets his fair share of goals... 7.97 could be ideal replacement in my opinion (if we think he starts!!)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Don't trust anyone who claims that it is confirmed that a player is out unless they provide a source. There is a lot of good information here, but occasionally you get some idiot who just tries to mess with you.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ive heard on BBC that Odemwingie is out...

    "West Brom

Doubtful: Bednar (illness), Brunt (groin), Dorrans (foot), Morrison & Odemwingie (both knee), Reid (Achilles)"

Any one hear re Odemwingie??? Playing or not?

  36. Currently have:
    Jussi
    Boateng-Kolarov-Bosingwa
    Adam-VdV-Nani-Milijas-Fabs
    Odem-Gyan

    OR...thinking of:
    (Carson)
    Boateng-Kolarov-(Steinsson)
    Adam-VdV-Nani-Milijas-Fabs
    (Torres)-Gyan

Odemwingie or Torres (or Carroll??)? The additions of Carson and Steinsson are just to fit in Torres. Is it worth it?

    ReplyDelete
  37. elmander or gyan at market price?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Malouda doesn't score big point playing deep, all his big scores came as a forward. I wanted to pick him this week but now i'm staying clear.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I have seen a LOT of interest in Elmander, which is probably justified by the match-up, but ALL of his goals have been on the Road. he has only been, OK at home... take a look at his scoring history.

    Something to chew on.

  45. Gyan or Odemwingie?

    Kuyt or Park?

    ReplyDelete
  46. looks like people's teams are going to be very different this week for a change. here's mine...

    Kingson
    Kolarov - Coleman - Vidic - P.Jones
VDV (@6.14 he stays all season!) - Nani - Pienaar
    Elmander - Gyan - Kalou

Banking on a few clean sheets here. Not too keen on Kingson, but he was a gut choice and I go with those. Kol, Coleman and Vidic should ll get some points, and I have a feeling Rovers will keep a clean sheet against villa to prove to their new owners why they just bought the club

VDV is only there as he's a keeper, i don't expect him to get massive points v arsenal. I'm expecting 20+ points from Nani, minimum! Pienaar is again a bit of a gut choice.

Elmander is on form so I feel I can't miss out. Same with Gyan, and Kalou has a point to prove. Drogba hasn't been on form, Malouda is dropping back to midfield, so I expect at least some phantom points from him, if not a goal!

    Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  47. @rwlwhite - I'm kind of leaning towards Kalou and Elmander as well. I'm thinking of dropping Fabs because of the matchup and adding Kalou + Elmander up front. But, still not sure...I have this horrible feeling that the week I drop Fabs he will score 35 points...

2 mancity defender is risky but hard to resist their discount prices vidic will be my premium defender after bale (at least for 3 wks)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Reina
    Coleman Kolarov Boateng
    Adam VDV Nani Milijas
    Torres Gyan Kalou

Risking with Reina. Liverpool might be poor but Reina is still playing well and I still expect them to beat West Ham. Torres seems to be scoring again so ill go with him.

In defence, I know having 2 city defenders is risky, but they're dirt cheap at 4.XX and City is playing very defensively, so I'll hold them for now.

Adam, VDV and Nani are SK for now, while Milijas is just a gut pick.

Kalou shld start and is cheap for Chelsea, while I'm paying full price for Gyan as I have excess funds left and no where to spend

    ReplyDelete
  60. @ A1

Drop Zhirkov, He's only 6.40 now at full price so you wont be losing much discounts and is still very affordable at full price. Plus I wouldnt count on Zhirkov as SK as he is definitely a rotation risk or even benched when Essien and Lampard are back

    ReplyDelete
  61. @JS - you're defenses look a bit weak. Squillaci and Boateng both haven't produced much other than CS points, and they don't have easy opponents either. Going for both Torres and Drogba is risky. Drogba have been relatively cold in the past month and LVL just can't score (only 13 goals in 13 games) so I can't see huge surplus from Torres, although I fancy him to score a goal. But if you are satisfied with players who might return their price but don't expect much more, then you are better off going for cheaper forwards like Elmander or Kalou and updating your MF/DF.

I have a sneaking feeling that Gerrard's abscence will liven up Liverpool, just hope Torres is fit enough to get a brace. Bale should do well but was too pricy @15

Odemwingie is likely to be moved out to the wing if fit and Adams injuries have finaly caught up with him. So in comes Tevez who should do well with City dominating the posession and Mereiles who may benefit from a more central role against the leakiest defence in the Premiership.

Backroom politics upsetting Chelsea so I have stayed clear.
