Week 10 - Player Picks

As I mentioned in my Sunday post I'm a year older today (thanks for the birthday wishes!) so I'm going to run through things very quickly this week as I have much to do/people to see!

Week 9 was a bad one for me so I'm looking to bounce back in Week 10, spreading my money about a bit more and perhaps going for some less recognised picks. I'll be honest, I've been forced in to this approach after missing the majority of barndoor bargains on Saturday/ Sunday, but maybe it'll work in my favour.

The fixtures throw us a few stand-outs, but the main one is a confident Arsenal facing rock-bottom West Ham. Chelsea will fancy their chances vs a limited Blackburn side, Man City travel to Wolves and an improving Everton host Stoke. Unfortunately I have to throw Man Utd in too as Spurs have not won at Old Trafford since 1989!

Fulham vs Wigan will be tight but I reckon Mark Hughes' men will edge it...they need to after two defeats on the spin. Aston Villa v Birmingham & Newcastle v Sunderland are two fiery derby games that should be fairly even, and I have Bolton v Liverpool & Blackpool v West Brom down as score draws.

Moving on to my player recommendations...

KEEPERS
Fabianski
Hart
Schwarzer
Krul

I'm bloody pissed off that I missed Fabianski on the barndoor, especially after he skyrocketed from 6 to almost 10. Home to West Ham is a guaranteed win and a very possible clean sheet, so at his barndoor price he'll be between the sticks for the majority of you I'm sure.

Next in line is Hart at goal-shy Wolves, a shade over £10m. Put simply, he makes a lot of saves; proved by a positive return despite a 3-0 defeat on Sunday and he should have another great chance if Milijas continues the shooting practice he started at Chelsea. If you have the money then he's probably a better pick than a full price Fabianski.

I'm actually looking at Mark Schwarzer as a possible keeper this week - he's £2m cheaper than Fabianski and Fulham are generally pretty solid at home, while Wigan aren't great on the road. The pick would also come with the added bonus of going against the crowd - a clean sheet for Fulham & a shock at the Emirates could give me the chance to recover some of the ground lost last week.

If you're looking to save money then Tim Krul is the only real choice, but Newcastle's home form is patchy at best and he's burnt us before - you have been warned!

DEFENDERS
Bosingwa
Squillaci
Boateng
Coleman
Bale
Salcido
Zhirkov
Srktel
Enrique/Simpson
O'Shea
Hutton
Crainey
Jara
Jacobsen

We've been waiting for the return of Jose Bosingwa for some time and he did not disappoint on his first start for almost a year. He gives Chelsea something Ivanovic/Ferreira can't offer and I expect him to continue as first choice right-back and provide great points for the rest of the season. Squillaci has a great clean sheet chance and is still reasonably priced, as is Boateng (another I missed @4 on the BD) at Wolves.

Seamus Coleman, under £6m and playing right wing for Everton at home to Stoke is probably my favourite defensive option of the week. It wouldn't be a player picks post without a Gareth Bale mention - he was clearly shattered last weekend but he's had a rest and will relish the big stage as he did in Milan. He's probably not worth full price at Old Trafford but I have a feeling we'll see him at his best and O'Shea (assuming Fergie doesn't risk Neville/ Rafael) will not be looking forward to facing him. Those with discounts may do well to hold on to him.

Salcido has gone a bit quiet after his strong opening week but he is still getting forward and taking shots, so with a winnable home game and possible clean sheet he should be in your thoughts. We await more news on Zhirkov but he could still be a good filler it Ramires/ Lampard remain out, and Skrtel has been scoring quite well for Liverpool so far this season. I also think we'll see Newcastle's full backs getting forward plenty, so you could do worse than Enrique or Danny Simpson, who has replaced the out-of-his-depth James Perch at right-back.

I mentioned O'Shea being in a for a tough time, but he's still the most affordable Man Utd defender, Hutton is back to his marauding best and his crossing has been excellent, Crainey tends to score well for Blackpool, same for West Brom's Jara and Jacobsen is the cheapest "guaranteed to start" defender at 5.00.

MIDFIELDERS
Fabregas
Nani
Malouda
Nasri
Silva
Van Der Vaart
Adam
Walcott/Arshavin
Brunt
Downing
Arteta
Barton/Nolan
Pennant
Milijas
Albrighton (Suspended)
Holden
Gardner
Scholes
Reo-Coker/Sidwell

Fabregas is the man in the photo and undoubtedly top of the list for me this week. I watched Newcastle out-pass West Ham last weekend so just think what the Spanish genius could achieve against them, especially as I expect him to play a more advanced role at home. The in-form Nasri is close behind him, while Walcott & Arshavin should both be on your shortlist and I hope we'll get some sort of team news from Wenger on Friday. Keeping an eye on who plays in the Carling Cup tonight will also help.

Nani & Malouda are enjoying fine seasons so they are difficult to drop/ignore and David Silva is definitely starting to find his feet in the Premiership - bad news for AJ in the long term I'd imagine. VDV is undroppable at the £6m many of us bought him for, although I expect his points production to be significantly lower away from home. Adam continues to rack up points.

I missed the Brunt bandwagon last week but he's still under £10m and starting to hit his best form, Downing has been Villa's best player and will be up for the derby, Arteta is pricey but should score well against Stoke (provided he returns from his injury) and the pairing of Barton/ Nolan have done well all season.

Pennant is slowly starting to steal more and more set pieces from Etherington and I've already mentioned Milijas' performance vs Chelsea - shoot, shoot & erm...shoot. None of his strikes were particularly powerful, but Yahoo minds not - they'll give you 3 points a pop! Holden is Mr Consistent, Gardner is back from his ban, Scholes likes to score vs Spurs and Reo-Coker & Sidwell offer you decent filler options in the heart of the Villa midfield.

STRIKERS
Chamakh
Tevez (Injured)

Berbatov
Hernandez
Drogba

Anelka
Adebayor/Balotelli
Torres
Carroll

Bent
Odemwingie
Dembele/Andy Johnson
Yakubu/Saha

Chamakh has really impressed me so far - he provides a much needed focal point that Arsenal have lacked for a while and has a touch more class and awareness than Bendtner offers. At a cost of under 8 at home to West Ham he has to tempt you. Should Tevez be fit to face Wolves then he's the premium striker choice (he's out), Hernandez is in a purple patch, Berbatov faces his old club and Spurs have a very leaky defence...uh-oh!

I know Drogba at £22m away from home is difficult to justify but I still think he'll put up great points - it's whether you feel you can put almost a quarter of your funds in to him after he ruined a lot of Week 9 totals. if you can't but still want a Chelsea striker then Anelka is under £15m and could prove a worthy alternative. With Tevez out Adebayor and/or Balotelli may be unleashed against Wolves and that certainly gives us something to think about.

Torres will be looking to start scoring on a regular basis after his drought ended and the same can be said for Andy Carroll after he scored for the first time in 5 games at Upton Park. When Sunderland score it's usually Darren Bent who provides it, Odemwingie is being tipped to return vs Blackpool, Dembele and/or Andy Johnson will lead the line for Fulham vs Wigan and Yakubu or Saha will do the same for Everton vs Stoke.

That'll do!

There are more players listed than usual because I feel there are a lot of players (especially midfielders) who can score well this week, plus there's nothing wrong with a bit of variety! I'll be writing my analysis for each area as and when I get time over the next 48 hours (done!) and will post an update on Friday with all relevant team/injury news, so please keep checking back.

The weekly poll is up so please start voting towards The Blog Team: http://www.misterpoll.com/polls/506291

The current side on my team page:

Schwarzer, Bosingwa, Bale, Coleman, Adam, Van Der Vaart, Nani, Fabregas, Hernandez, Chamakh, Dembele

...that team leaves £1.9m in the bank and Malouda/Zhirkov still held at discount behind the scenes. I could use the extra funds to go Schwarzer->Fabianski, or upgrade Dembele to Barton/ Silva, or switch out Bale to Squillaci/ Salcido/ Boateng/ Hutton and keep Malouda/ get Anelka in Dembele's place. Confused? I am at the moment!

What do you think? How's your team looking? Who will score big? Who will flop? Anyone you feel I've missed from the lists above?

Cheers,
AM

  2. Happy Birthday, AM....may the force be with you today.

No love at all for Gilks or Carson in goal this week? Both available for the exact same price (4.99) and I fancy one of them will represent a goo return on investment this week....the question then is which one!? Gilks makes significantly more saves than Carson, is playing at home and faces a West Brom team missing its most potent goal scorers so he is my pick for now but that's subject to review.

    Currently, I'm sitting on:

    Gilks
    Bosingwa Coleman Squillaci
    VDV Nani Adam Fabs Brunt
    Tevez Dembele

I'm with you in the "pissed off I missed the barndoor" club (although I do have Brunt - who I had on my team all last week but dropped in the end to make room for Drogba - at a discount) and really wish that I had Fabianski, Boateng or Chicharito at discounts...but life goes on! I still own Flomo, Zhirkov and Bale in the background and obviously waiting on the fitness reports for Tevez and Adam...if Tevez is a doubt, I will probably go Tevez to Chicharito or Chamakh which would allow me to keep Bale.

Oh, did I mention that my current team leaves me with exactly 0 left over to spend?

  3. Its Blackpool vs West Brom.. not wigan.

  4. Bojan - thanks mate :)

DT - Thanks mate, I don't like Carson away from home but definitely see your point on Gilks. He was in the player picks I started drafting yesterday but I left him out in the end as I couldn't shake the image of WBA scoring 3 at Arsenal!

@MU - yep a typo on my part, now corrected :)

  5. Happy Birthday!

Just wanted to thank you for this blog from a fellow Yid. Let's hope that it's time to change things huh?

So far I'm actually relatively happy with my team and I missed the barndoor too!

    Hart
    Boateng, Bosingwa, Squillaci
    Malouda, VdV, Fabregas, Nasri
    Hernandez, Chamakh, Carroll.

Think that I might be a little heavy on the Arsenal though.....

Does anyone else think that last week might have been a bit of a false dawn for Liverpool? I'm thinking of having a bet on Bolton without the draw I'm that confident :-)a fool and his money.....

  6. Happy Birthday Nik, great post, reasoned arguments as always.

I know there's been a lot of gushing in the comments section recently but I wanted to add my thanks for what you've created here. I frequent many blogs for a variety of subjects and this is probably my favourite, not just because of the information you provide but also the community you've built.

The fact you did this on your own going from nothing to almost one-thousand fans and many hundreds of comments every week in just over one year is testament to your hard work and ability to engage everyone with your unique writing style. Long may it continue, and I hope you have an excellent fantasy football week to help add to your celebrations!

    Cheers, J

  7. Happy Birthday AM!

I also missed the barndoor, I have missed it the PAST 3 WEEKS! I dont have any idea which to drop between Bale Malouda or Drogba as I have been holding onto all 3 since week 1, I really want to keep Nani and get Fabs too! It seems likely I will pick Krul in goal too.

  8. Hows about
    Foster
    Carr Boateng Bosingwa
    Adam VDV Nani FloMo Fabs
    Hernandez ChamWow

Not saved as I hold Torres on a discount and am thinking about him for this weekend.

  9. Happy Birthday Nik!!! I hope you got lots of presents.

I'd like to also say thank you for the continually excellent work you do on your blog, it's appreciated by thousands of us!

Now back to business.... I can't help but think Drogba is being massively overlooked by the majority of managers. It might just be a personal hunch of mine, but i can see him knocking a brace in against Blackburn. They are not a good team, and Drogba is due to have an explosive week. I suppose the expense is the problem here, but i'll be trying to fit him in.

Fabregas appeared to lose practically ALL of his set pieces to a certain Samir Nasri when they played City. Fabregas barely took anything (apart from a missed penalty), and played a very deep role, with Nasri the one supporting the striker and darting into the box.

Is Fabregas worth nearly 17M if he's not getting his kicks?

Gareth Bale, i can't help but think it's a mistake to drop him now. He's had 7 days to recover, we all know how he rises to the big occasions. He will relish charging down the left at whatever second rate right back Utd put out there, and i still have faith in him for another week.

I'd like to have Bale, Fabregas AND Drogba all in my team this week, but that is proving to be impossible so i'll have to think carefully about which of the 3 i will go without.

    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'll add my vote for Gilks, I fancy Blackpool to come back strong this week.
I still hold Bale and Drogs and I will probably keep both this week because I agree with Mike B's exceelent logic and because it might make me different from a lot of others who have dropped them.
I also missed most of the barndoor so will probably have to do without Bosingwa, Boateng and Hernandez.
My big decision will be whether to drop Nani for Nasri/Fab.

    Happy Birthday AM!

Great picks as usual. IDK why i BD Fabianski as I don't trust Arsenal will get CS even vs weak team. Schwarzer? Be careful Nzogbia/Roda always suprised us :)

  13. Balotelli as a filler seems like a good option if you want to have all the big boys in midfield this week.

  14. I'm sure that fellow newcastle fans won't need reminding that Shola "welcome to my crib" Ameobi just loves banging the goals in against Scumderland. If you ignore the fact that he may not start and is generally just a bit rubbish, then he should be a shoo-in in all fantasy teams this week. It's what Paul the octopus would've wanted.

Hope you have a great birthday, AM, lovin' your work (except your unfortunate oversight of Shola in the player picks obviously!)

  16. Happy Birthday Nik !. another great post as usual. just one thing to quibble with. u say wigan aren't great away but they are in fact unbeaten with 1 win & 2 draws ( obv 1 at spurs- sorry to remind u ! ) & almost nicked a win at newc ( but who doesn't ! ). i'd still agree with u on fulham to beat wigan but it's something to bear in mind & these home/away patterns do tend to keep going .
not sure whether to drop berba for hernandez. berb's has been absol rubbish for me. his ownership went from 15% to 25% after his hat-trick. but u just know if i drop him he will bag a brace. might roon even make a shock return. jduging from others teams listed i will probably buy hernandez just to mark him up.

    S.P.

  17. S.P. - agreed re: Wigan but they have been pretty impotent on the road...only 3 goals scored away from home all season.

  18. I wont be as modest in wishes as others are. So i wish you happy year (not only birthday :).

My team is looking now quite uncertain but still can share it with you:

Fabianski (bad news for all who has him, since 1st weak, only 5 times happened that my keeper got more than 0 points, had no Kirk in team :)

Bosingwa (looks solid nad propably stay) Boateng (as Bosingwa, if nothing special happen he will stay)
Coleman (hope for big point from this young guy this week)

VDV, Adam (you cant let them go)
Fabregas (almost everyone will have him, I'm one of you)
Nani/Malouda/?? (not sure yet, but I say Malouda in bad shape in last few weeks and even in last game, where he was on the pitch for over 70 minutes?; probably I'll go with Nani as he scores a lot of phantoms).

Chamakh (would you mind to score a goal, ChamWoW?)
Tevez (to be honest I would love to go with Baliotelli instead but.. dont think Mario is going to start ):
Elmander (at discount is an interesting pick, against one of the bottom club ;)

Still thinking about Salcido, Malouda (not sure if i want to let him go), Arshavin, Downing (feel that he's gonna score big points) and Zhirkov (under 5)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Happy Birthday Nik. Hope you get all you wished for (except for Spurs winning the league).

I've got £15mill burning a hole in my pocket, can anyone give me some help as to who to change?

    Fabianski
Squillaci, Bosingwa, Zhirkov (will probably change to Coleman or Boateng)
Malouda, Adam, Fab4, VDV, Silva (got him really cheap, so hesitant to change, especially as he's looking lively)
    Chamwow, Chicarito.

Any tips who to change? I know Silva & Chicarito are cheap, especially at the price I got them, but I believe they'll be getting the points in this wknd.

    Here`s my team

    Fabianski
    Bosingwa Boateng Coleman
    Nani VDV Fabregas Brunt Adam
    Hernandez Chamakh

4,26 left in the bank, but don`t see where I can upgrade ??? HELP!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Foster
    Boateng Bosingwa Bale
    Adam VDV Malouda Reo-Coker
    Hernandez Drogs Zigic

0.08 short of being able to get ChamWow into this lineup in place of Zigic

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Raconteur: That is a really solid team and I wouldn't want to change anyone for the sake of it. I'd say the obvious upgrade is Fabianski to Hart/Cech, not because you need to but because if you have the moey to spend they're more likely to return good points.

  23. HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIK!

Great job as usual. Thanks for diligently posting your eloquent thoughts for us. Now go have a good time and wishing you the best year ever!

And I hope Spurs give you a belated birthday present this weekend, too. Not just the win but maybe something unusual, unlikely, and extra-special that you can remember forever.... .... .... Like Tom Huddlestone scoring a perfect hat-trick.... You know, something unlikely to be repeated ever again! ; )

Lots of good suggestions and thoughts from everyone today. For people looking for an out of left field choice, how about Paul Robinson in goal? He's on good form, he'll surely get some practice, and usually big teams don't score big at Blackburn. I don't think you could say the same for Green at Arsenal.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Happy birthday, Nik! Thanks for the great blog.

I've been messing around with a couple options for this week and can't decide.

    Option 1:

    Hart
    Bosingwa, Boateng, Coleman, Squillaci
    VDV, Fabregas, Adam
    Chicharito, Drogba, Dembele

    Option 2:

    Schwarzer
    Bosingwa, Boateng, Kompany, Coleman
    VDV, Fabregas, Adam
    Chicharito, Drogba, Chamakh

So it basically comes down to Hart/Squillaci/Dembele or Schwarzer/Kompany/Chamakh.

    Suggestions? Thanks!

    Foster
    Squill-Bosingwa-Boateng
    VdV-Nasri-Nani-Brunt-Malouda
    Hernandez-Chamakah

Still have 3.20 in the bank and still thinking also a switch of Chamak to Bendter....

Finally, for last week points I need to clarify my post that not only was I "quite pleased" at 137 pts, I was "quite fucking pleased".

  30. i got nani and malouda at discount and one can go to be replaced by fab-fabregas... but which one

ps i will miss barndoor sat so change is pain (especially since i've already dropped bale this week)

    ReplyDelete
  31. so who starts in midfield for arsenal? Sounded like Walcott played well vs Newcastle. i've got enough for fab, nasri, ash or walcott and then depending on who i pick depends on who partners a barndoored hernandez - probably dembele or odemwingie.

i know i've said it before but keep an eye on Gyan if he starts he'll score. he's been playing well off the bench and its only a matter of time before he replaces danny wellbeck.

any news on the knock Adam took last weekend?

    and happy birthday!

  32. Feliz Anniversario Nik,
this is always a bad omen for me, when my favorite team is the choice for matchups. it means i pick around the arsenal players or none play well.
i could have gotten fabianski but i am keeping foster for the double week. his price of 5.85 is quite nice.
    my team
    foster
    squilacci/ boateng/ carr
    cesc/ nasri/ adam/ van der vaart/ nani
    obinna/ hernandez
i have $4+ to spend and will change out carr, more than likely. i dropped tevez for hernandez at full price. i don't think there will be more than one goal for city away from home, and tevez will score but only get 10-13 points. hernandez is full of confidence unlike his teammates up front. i am going nasri and cesc and hoping to cover most of the goals and assists with them. i am hoping that cesc has a break out game, so that he will start terrorizing defenses. obinna will be gone too, but the last time i dropped a striker playing at arsenal it was odemwingie, so i am leery.

    I'm on:
    Hart
    Yuri, Boateng, Coleman
    VDV, Nani, FloMal, Silva, Fab4
    Chamakh, Carrol

2Mill in the bank and holding on injuries/Carlo's report to save and sell Tevez and Kirkland.

I'm thinking of getting off the FloMal train; could see Lampard stripping his value. May go from Carrol to Kalou.

    Thoughts?

    Stuck with

    Salcido Bos Zhirkov
VDV CAdam Nani Guiteriz(want Gardner but no $$$)
    ChamWow Torres Drogs
Really hoping that Torres & Drogs score a brace each in their away games!!! COME ON!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I actually dropped Drogba (might come back to bite me) and I picked up Hart (had him at 8 mill earlier) and also Kalou and Walcott. I think Walcott will have a massive game.

    So, right now:

    Hart
    Carr, Zhirkov, Boateng
    Adam, FloMa, VdV, Nasri, Walcott
    Kalou, Chicharito

Problem with that is that if Cesc, Nasri, Arshavin and Walcott...who will start? Nasri might sit. If I get an indication of that, I'll drop him for Kalou.

    J0J0

    ReplyDelete
  43. @Anon 5:30AM - See my earlier post. Torres has supposedly flown back to Argentina for medical treatment, and doesn't look like he will play this weekend...

    My team so far:
    Hart
    Boateng-Squillaci-Bosingwa
    FloMa-Adam-VdV-Nani-Fab4
    Chicharito(BD)-Cham(still waiting for the)Wow!

A little uncertain up front. Also, considering switching Malouda to Nasri, any thoughts on that one? Fantasy Football Scout lists Malouda as a doubt? Hopefully Ancelotti will clear things up on Friday.

Adam is also a bit of a doubt, but if you have him since the beginning, like me, at such a huge discount, you almost HAVE to take the zero. Still, it doesn't sound too serious, so hopefully he will play.

  44. My team

I just got a feeling that Berbatov is gonna show something against his old club, so i decided to drop Adam for another striker slot
And hopefully Torres starts to score after breaking his goal drought

  49. i'm a bit flummoxed this week. my team as it stands is thus:

    Kirkland
    Boateng - Zhirkov - Coleman
    VDV - Malouda - Fabregas - Nasri - Adam
    Tevez - Chamakh

I'm mnot sure I want to stick with kirkland anymore, but the keepers who get any points at all seem to be too expensive, and the cheaper ones are massively unreliable, no matter who they are playing.
I'm not sure of Zhirkov's starting status when players start getting fit, and i'm sure lampard is due back soon, so i'm not sure i want to get a 0 from a chelsea player.
My midfield, is nearly identical to 90% of the midfields out there, except i have nasri instead of nani.
i'm also not sure of tevez's starting status this week. he got a bit of a knock against arsenal, balotelli is back, adebayor is scoring again, and they have a europa league game on wednesday so i think they might rest tevez.

after last night's carling cup as well, i'm tempted to squeeze walcott in somewhere - he has scored 6 goals in 5 games this season! - and he is starting to look like the player he was meant to be...as long as he keeps being allowed a more forward role like last night. I can actually see wenger going with the following mid/attack: Song - Fabregas - Nasri (7 goals in 6) - Walcott (6 goals in 5) - Bendtner (2 goals in 2) - Chamakh against west ham. However, i don't really want to saturate my team with arsenal players - you know, just in case... but every now and then you do see teams at the top of the weekly leader board who have picked all chelsea players for example and they've won 6-0 and they get hundreds of points. I'm currently sitting 4002nd, which is about 3000 worse than my average last season, so i might take the risk...watch this space

    Oh, and Happy Birthday Nik!

  51. Some help please.

I don't plan to change my keeper and Wenger's boys are having easy matches. Bosingwa my season keeper and Alcaraz keeps racking points. VDV's a magician and Nani poops points. To make matter worst, I still got 8.56 in the bank. What to do???

    Kirkland
    Boateng Bosingwa Alcaraz
    VDV Nani Nasri Silva Arshavin
    Rodallega Chamakh

I'm starting to think of dropping Malouda as he has been pretty quiet of late of Lampard may be coming back. Plus having 4 SK mids makes my team pretty stuck.

With Tevez out, I'm risking on Balotelli as it is either him or Adebayor.

  62. Any thoughts on Walcott v. Chicharito?

To go with Walcott I need to keep Zhirkov at discount, slightly worried 1 or both will not play.

If I go with Chicharito I can fit in Coleman. So I guess its:

    Walcott/Zhirkov or Chicarito/Coleman

Juelz, i wouldn't stress too much about Bosingwa. If you have him for 6.29 then he is probably a season keeper.

    My team:

    Fabianski
    Bosingwa Boateng Salcido
    Fabregas Nani Adam VDV
    Hernandez Chamakh Torres

2.31 spare, still hold Squillaci and Nasri at discounts. I'm open to criticism..

  75. AM - take a look on fantasyfootballscout.com

"Malouda CHE 30/10/10 Ankle injury. Sustained in the 2-0 win over Wolves on 23/10. Ancelotti predicted after the game that he would need “two days to recover from an ankle problem"

Just seems like he took a knock on the ankle, i would imagine we'll know about it tomorrow though.

  76. AM..

  77. The Malouda news has me a bit worried, too. I'm thinking of switching him for Nasri for this week, and then maybe switching Nasri to Walcott on the BD?

Anyway, I'm considering a lineup without any of the 'big 3':

    Hart
    Boateng-Bosingwa-Squillaci
    Adam-VdV-Nani-Nasri-Fab4
    Chamakh-Chicharito

I like the midfield, but the forwards may be a bit weak. Can Chicharito continue playing well with a tougher matchup? Chamakh hasn't really scored well overall, but against West Ham with Fabs returning to get him more passes?

Overall, though, I kind of like this lineup. Haven't hit save yet, though...

  78. is boswinga going to really produce? i want a cheaper alternative to bale, that produces and went with hutton but his schedule gets tough. i have carr and don't want him. is boswinga at full price of 7.86 worth it? other people had great debuts and we all jumped on them, salcido. i am forgetting some of the others, and don't have time to look, but the point is, it doesn't mean that they will consistently produce.

    ReplyDelete
  79. @greginho...

did you watch the game? bosingwa was incredible and only an amazing save kept him from scoring. he burst forward non-stop (just like he always did). not to mention chelsea have clean sheets in 7/ 9 games so that makes him a steal even if he didnt attack!

    ReplyDelete
  80. thanks josh. i can't watch any games. the satellite i have is not showing any games. last year i had 2 premier league games, 2-3 la liga, 2-3 serie A, 3 french, 1 german and 2 portugese games on a weekend, now nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I've kind of loaded up on Arsenal. It can be tricky to have too many players from one team, especially if they do poorly. But, I'm thinking ahead to the double week that follows. Arsenal have some good match-ups in the next three:

West Ham at home (last place club)
Newcastle at home (just beat them 4-0 in Carling Cup)
Wolves on the road (Second to last team)

Of course, the one problem with this plan is the Champions League match in the middle. With so many games so close together, some might get rested.

    What do others think?

    ReplyDelete
  82. @greghinho - I'm in the same situation. So I use myp2p.eu. The quality is crap, but it's better than nothing...and, it's free.

  85. I really do not understand the fascination with Coleman.... I can only think it is because he is a defender playing in the midfield, he is cheap and because you have not seen him play. For me, he does not offer that much on the pitch.

Check out his numbers. He has 3 clean sheets and still has only managed to score 33.5 points. That is 15.5. in 7 games w/o CS. If you fancy Everton to get a CS against Stoke then pick him. For me, I would rather pick a guy who scores regardless of getting a CS or not.

  89. Am I to take it that a 'barn door' pick is when one buys the player before the prices have been readjusted for their good play? Say, just after the match?

    ReplyDelete
  90. To Anon 3:44, yep, thats barn dooring.

Possibly the team i will go with...

    Fabianski
    Bosingwa, Boateng, Bale
Van der Vaart, Brunt, Nasri, Silva
    Hernandez, Drogba, Chamakh

Obviously the main critisism is there is no Fabregas or Nani, but i just can't shake the huge hunch i have of Drogba going huge this week.

We'll see if i follow that hunch on Saturday, or if i end up picking Nani and Fabregas like everyone else!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm surprised no one has Anelka he has a terrific scoring record on blackburn I fancy him to produce some good points and is a whole lot cheaper than drogba. Drogz looked rusty last week ill put my money on anelka this week.

I would stay away from arsenal defenders they still don't have it together in the middle there outsides are quality but expensive and if ther is a mistake it could prove costly
