Arsenal Suffer Triple Injury Scare

Arsenal.com - Triple Injury Scare
Arsenal have been rocked by three fresh injuries to Robin van Persie, Thomas Vermaelen and Kieran Gibbs with the season less than a week away.

Van Persie scored in the Gunners latest preseason defeat to Benfica and unfortunately for Wenger the 27-year old picked up a knock.

"It is an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is," Wenger told Arsenal.com. "Gibbs has a muscular [thigh] problem and Vermaelen has a slight back problem."

Three players I was set to pick in my team for the opening weekend now appear to be doubtful and may need to be replaced, although I'll wait for a more thorough assessment later in the week before dismissing them completely. I do find it amazing how many Arsenal players suffer injuries and the frequency of them - many reoccurring. What is going on in regards to fitness, conditioning, recovery etc? Questions have been asked before and they need to be asked again as the problem isn't going away.

Cheers,
AM

Haha! Sorry about that. That may make Gervinho a must pick player for week 1.

Yeah I agree, Gervinho becomes a no-brainer if RvP is missing

At what point do you fire the physios? I mean, this medical backroom staff can't keep their players healthy for half a season. Surely there's too much talent OFF the field at Arsenal for these meds to keep their jobs? I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I keep waiting for them to have a season that shows us what they really COULD be if everybody was available to play.

At least there is one definite player for opening day, but he's way expensive, of course:

Fergie vows to start Nani

Hey guys, this has caused me to rethink my team.
It boils down to Filler defender (Wheater?) and Dempsey OR Luiz/ Silva.
Any opinions?

There's no surprise there in the player's mentioned injured, all serial crocks. It has nothing to do with the physios..some players just can't cut it physically, blame the bodies. I've seen it at West Ham for years...

Hey AM,

Sorry mate, late to the game and didn't make any of your 14 groups. Is there any way that you can add one more? Fifteen sounds like a nice round number, don't you think?
My private group fell through after 5 years and I don't have another group to join. Been a loyal reader for the past two seasons now. Please hook it up. Mahalo. Toekicker UTD

i do think it is the trainer. arsenal has a very rigourous training regime, that is copied from running and other phyical sports, that is supposed to get the players into the top phisique for the first game of the season and is used the whole year, to keep the players there. i just think it is not the right approach. there are some trainers that are football specialists that call for less training and also change the training for each players, respective medical history. older players train less, muscular injuries train less, etc.
