Injury Update 08/12/09

From the ever-excellent football365.com comes some fantastic injury news for Tottenham fans & more terrible injury news for Man Utd fans:

Luka Modric will play in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Tottenham on Tuesday afternoon as he continues his recovery from the broken leg he suffered in August after a challenge from Lee Bowyer.

The Croat was originally ruled out for just eight weeks but complications mean he has only recently returned to light training. If he comes through the friendly unscathed, he could return to the full squad to face Wolves this weekend.

Wilson Palacios is still a doubt for that game after suffering a rib injury in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Everton.

There's good news emanating from Manchester City with Micah Richards returning to training just three days after limping out of Saturday evening's win over Chelsea.

"I heard a crack and then the knee gave way and for a moment I thought it was really serious," explained Richards.

"It was a bit of a worry because it was the right knee, the one on which I had an operation last season. But the pain subsided and fortunately I am fit to train again."

Also back to fitness is Stephen Ireland, who missed the Chelsea game with a knee problem, while Craig Bellamy is expected back in training this week ahead of Saturday's trip to face Wolves.

As you may have read elsewhere, Manchester United defenders John O'Shea and Jonny Evans have both been ruled out of action until January.

Evans has been struggling with a calf injury while O'Shea's problem was not specified by the club on Monday.

It is more bad news on the defensive front for manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who ended Saturday's 4-0 win at West Ham with Michael Carrick and Patrice Evra in the centre of defence, Ryan Giggs at left-back and Darren Fletcher at right-back.

The double blow is part of an atrocious injury situation which leaves Ferguson without 12 players for Tuesday night's game against Wolfsburg, plus the rested Giggs and Owen Hargreaves, who is still troubled by a knee complaint which has kept him out all season.

Ferguson confirmed Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov took minor knocks at West Ham.

Rooney has hamstring injury while Berbatov has a knee problem, with both rated doubtful for Saturday's home game with Aston Villa.

I'm obviously delighted about Modric, as it appears he may be close to a return. He's Tottenham's one world-class player in my opinion, so to still be 4th when we've been without him for over 3 months has been a great effort.

The Rooney news adds a huge amount of confusion as I was set on the Defoe, Drogba, Rooney front 3 for the double week. If he goes I'll be looking at Benitez or Bent I'd imagine.

How does this news affect your Week 15 teams?

Cheers,
AM

I didn't hold Rooney at discount and missed the chance to BD him so from a personal pov i hope he's injured and a few people drop him from their weekend lineups. How do you rate Kranjaer's chances of playing 2 games AM? I really like him and at 12 he's a very tempting midfield option.

Onto my team anyway.. My biggest decision is whether to ride a double gamer with Given (who i hold for 7) as he has some great fixtures coming up or if i downgrade given to Duke i can have a midfield of Lampard/Elliot or BFAR and Kranjaer. I also have Arshavin at discount so i'm trying to keep an eye on news about Eduardo as if he is out, il certainly keep the Russian in my lineup! All in all a very difficult week as there's so many players i want to pick up and so few points! I hope others are having more luck than me :)

This is the best news to start my day that I've had in quite awhile - YES!! The Prem's craftiest playmaker on the verge of a return.

Having missed most of the barn door action over the weekend for various reasons, the news that Rooney may be out is actually pretty good for me, i was considering dropping him so i could spend a little more in midfield anyway.

After my shocking last month i really really need to get back on track, and it has to be this double week. I just can't believe i missed so many on the barn door grrr.

Nice to see Modric is almost there, although Kranjcar has been excellent in his place so i'll be interested to see if he starts warming the bench now.

Anyway, my barn dooring is going to be extremely limmited over the next 6 weeks due to a ton of family things i have to do, so some shrewd picks are going to be needed each week. To be honest, my fall in form seems to coincide with me spending more time thinking about my team anyway haha. So maybe this will be a blessing in disguise.

Is anyone considering Green as a possible Goaly for this weekend? I need the money but i'm petrified that keeping Kirkland in is going to destroy me.

I'll share my worries with you.

First, should I keep Lamp/Mullins or go to Reid/(Benayoun,Essien)

Second, should I drop Lamps for someone cheap and upgrade Mullins to either Elliot or Eagles(at 3m dc). Then again, which one is better Elliot or Eagles for the DW.

And finally, I have Kranjc for now but if I decide to drop Lamps, is it wiser to get 3m hit and get Lennon...!!!

Btw, for me, I think Kirk WILL stay, unless I get some spare money left. Martinez gave a hint that he may be back for both matches. Even if he doesn't play, we all know that a keeper with 2 matches can/do disappoint us, rather too often.

I'd appreciate every opinion/suggestion to my team...!!!

For now:
Kirk
Verm,Bass,Jordan
MTay,Lamps,Kranjc,Mullins
Drogs,Roon,Benitez

Good Luck...!!!

@ Everyone considering Giggs

Here is a hint that SAF gave on Giggs chances for playing both DW matches...He was refering to tonight's CL match ...!!!

“We left Ryan behind because we’ve been playing him in one game a week and that has worked for us. He is fit for Saturday, but Berbatov and Rooney are both doubtful.”

ONE GAME/A WEEK!!! That can be bothering. And, yes Kellz, I know he can score just about enough even with one match, but aren't there enough choices for MF (and quite premium ones), e.g. Reid,Valencia,Lennon,Kranjc,MTay, and I'd even consider Benayoun,Essien,SLarsson as "as good picks"...!!!

Anyway...after all it is all about hunch, isn't it ;)

Good Luck...!!!

Crap. I have Rooney at a decent discount. If this situation runs true to form, I'll drop him, but he'll wind up being fit after all and scoring a hattrick.

Out of town during the Spurs-Wigan match, I couldn't BD Defoe, and I can't afford him now without unbalancing my team. I'll probably have to go with Bent, although he's the poster boy for the all-or-nothing striker. Last time he was in my team, I got -0.5 for my troubles.

In other news, Beattie might be looking for another club:

yup Fidan, very long list of better picks, but I like my discount and can't see myself dropping him. Also will keep Rooney at discount, its still very early in the season and I think long term this will work out. But hey could just blow up in my face.

Fergie is confident Wes Brown will be back to face Villa and Rooney with a minor knock will come back to face Villa IMO.

Funny that i hate Utd with a passion and yet I feild a team with Brown, Giggs, Gibson, Valencia, and Rooney :D

In their quest for strikers, Arsenal's supposedly among the clubs looking to pick up Pavlyuchenko, although for obvious reasons Gunners-Spurs transfers are rare.

anelka's a good switch ( at just over 14.00 & 2 home games )if roon is injured. hope we get certain news 1 way or the other. i fancy torres to do some damage too over the 2 gamer but no way i'm paying 19.00+ for him. aquilani might be worth considering though. will see how he does tomorrow in UCL. S.P.

people need to not even think about aquilani. if he comes back and starts, he will not do anything for a while he has to adjust to a new team and they need to adjust to him.
