Week 9 Preview

Firstly I'll quickly clarify my thoughts on Week 8. I listed 45 players at the beginning of thw week, but below are the final 20 now in my consideration

GKs: Robbo, Gordon

DFs: Verm, Heitinga, Givet, Sonko, O'Shea

MFs: Fabs, Giggs, Billy, Walcott, Kranjcar, Boateng, Dunn

FWs: Drogba, Torres, Berbatov, Van Persie, Saha, Owen

I'll be honest & say there are still 3 big decisions I need to make before midday tomorrow. The Rooney thing obviously left one big decision, then the news about Berbatov, the uncertaintly regarding Torres & the fact Walcott isn't certain to start leave me with a number of headaches.

Anyway, a really quick preview on Week 9 as I'm very busy at work & I'm fairly sure my boss has noticed that I've spent all of my day looking at Premiership Team News...

Saturday, 24 October 2009
Birmingham v Sunderland, 15:00
Burnley v Wigan, 15:00
Chelsea v Blackburn, 17:30
Hull v Portsmouth, 15:00
Tottenham v Stoke, 15:00
Wolverhampton v Aston Villa, 12:45

Sunday, 25 October 2009

Bolton v Everton, 13:30
Liverpool v Man Utd, 14:00
Man City v Fulham, 15:00
West Ham v Arsenal, 16:15

Stand-out fixtures...Chelsea home to Blackburn, Tottenham home to Stoke, Man City home to Fulham & Arsenal at West Ham. Villa at Wolves, Everton at Bolton & Sunderland at Birmingham are also worth a look.

Liverpool v Man U is always very tough to call & I'll probably avoid Burnley v Wigan & Hull v Portsmouth.

Barndoor ideas...
Chelsea: Drogba, Anelka, Ballack, Lampard, Bosingwa
Spurs: Defoe, Crouch, Kranjcar, Lennon, Bassong
Man City: Adebayor, Bellamy, Tevez, Richards, Bridge, Given
Arsenal: Van Persie, Fabregas, Arshavin, Walcott, Verm
Everton: Saha, Billy, Pienaar, Baines, Heitinga
Sunderland: Bent, Jones, Reid, Turner, Gordon
The Rest: Torres, Gerrard, Benayoun, Rooney, Berbatov, Giggs, O'Shea, Kightly, Nugent, Jensen, Rodallega, Hunt, Bullard, Myhill, O'Hara

Any last minute injury news will be up later today, although I may not have time for Predicted Starting XIs.

How are your teams looking for Week 8? Have you had time to think about the barndoor yet?

Cheers,
AM

almost my whole team is 'hidden' in there .. but I guess that goes for 99% here at the blog..well except then for two that are not on that list..if I just hadnt shipped out Dunn.. it would have been only one..still..2.. that's a relative low amount of hunches for me this week!

"Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres were today ruled out of this weekend's trip to Sunderland - though Rafael Benitez has received better news on the injury to Sotirios Kyrgiakos...

There was also better news on Dirk Kuyt after his injury scare during the international break.

"Kuyt is okay. He was training normally with the team and will be available," added Benitez."

If SG and El Nino are ruled out of the game, then it will be tougher for them to control the midfield.

Bent is definitely worth a shot if this is the case.

Good luck

Also,

As Rooney is ruled out of United, Berbatov's Misses is giving birth, and Owen is only just coming back from injury, then it seems that Welbeck will possibly be given a run in.

It is difficult to pick from the United forwards this week, so, as Giggs has been rested for 3 weeks, I can see him playing for the majority of the match in which he should orchestrate the majority of the attacking play.

Nani will also feature after his fine display for Portugal midweek.

RVP is probably the best replacement for Rooney given the news. DeFoe and Crouch at 9.99 are also good options facing their former employees.

Saha at home looks promising at 11+, and I have a sneaky feeling that Dempsey will have a good game for Fulham at home to Hull.

Good luck

I am very torn at Forward this week. I sold rooney off and flipped some players, including Mtaylor and now am stuck between defoe, bent, and berbatov starting next to drogba.

Any thoughts? I dont see too much downside for any of these guys, and have them ranked defoe, berbs, and bent.

Hrmmmm anyone have any thoughts on Arshavin starting against Birmingham? Worried that Wenger would go Rosicky+Walcott/Diaby etc in order to rest someone who's just played a midweek international... Have him at 14.30 (market value 15.88), so I'm a teensy bit reluctant to let him go, considering he may very well play the week later at WestHam... If I do get a replacement, I may consider swapping out Myhill for someone else... (Still have him at 1.00).

On a separate note... Does the term Barndoor have any significance?

Thanks,
Man w/ a conundrum.
