Injury Update 22/10/09

Not much time to post today, so just a quick injury update from football365.com...
Liverpool fans know this already - but new signing Alberto Aquilani made his long-overdue debut for the reserves on Wednesday night and completed 15 minutes in which he apparently looked pretty handy.

He was chuffed with himself, saying: "I am happy to have made my debut. It's been a very long time since I last played.

"Although I only played for 15 minutes tonight, it is good for me and my fitness. I know I am not fully fit yet, but I hope to be soon."

Sunday's clash with Manchester United will come too soon for Aquilani, but next Wednesday's Carling Cup meeting with Arsenal looks tailor-made for a first-team debut.

Meanwhile, Glen Johnson seems to think he will be fit for Sunday and offers an update on the fitness of Nando Torres (thumbs up) and Steven Gerrard (not to much), saying: "I think I will be all right for Sunday. We haven't tested it today, just soft tissue work and massage, but it seems a lot freer than it did.

"I think Nando [Torres] might be all right for Sunday but I am not too sure about Stevie."

Albert Riera is expected to miss out once again with a hanstring injury.

Manchester United have their own problems with The Independent reporting that 'Wayne Rooney faces an uphill battle to be fit for Manchester United's vital encounter with Liverpool'.

He is still struggling with the calf injury he picked up on England duty, while Darren Fletcher and Ryan Giggs are still struggling to make that game. Patrice Evra (heel) is the one player who could return.

Injury kings Birmingham should have some problems cleared up in time for this weekend's game with Sunderland after missing a grand total of nine players last weekend.

"Gregory Vignal is at a good level could be back," said boss McLeish. "He might join us this week which would indicate that he could be available for the weekend.

"Franck (Queudrue) is back in training and so is Stuart Parnaby. It's good that Stuart is back because the full back situation has been horrendous."

Keith Fahey (ankle) is still a doubt, while David Murphy (knee), Giovanny Espinoza (ankle) and Martin Taylor (ankle) are all still out.

Everton will be without Joseph Yobo, Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman for their Europa League match against Benfica tonight. Yobo suffered a head injury during the draw with Wolves while Pienaar is recovering from a knee problem that has caused him to miss the last three games. Osman did not travel because of an ankle injury.

Fulham skipper Danny Murphy has a knee injury and will miss Thursday's Europa League clash against Roma at Craven Cottage.
A side note - it'll be interesting to see whether Anchelotti gives players like Deco a rest after he started 3 games in a row & maybe includes Joe Cole for this weekend. I'd love Cole to get some game time but it may be too much of a risk to put him in your team.

A reminder that Blog League 5 is open for people who didn't get a place in the first 4. Only 30 spaces left...

Ajani: I think he will be fit to play. News on Man City website said this...

"Mark Hughes will unleash his trigger happy big guns Emmanuel Adebayor, Craig Bellamy and Carlos Tevez in training tomorrow and hope they are all still firing."

Good news then :)

Thanks for the info :-)

Ade is my only doubt selction wise. If he is fit he stays, if not then I need to rejig my team slightly Have a choice between Bent or Agbon?

Anyone have any thoughts on which?

Apparently Huth is handed a 3 match ban... so does this mean that Wilkinson will be back at the right back position?

apparently bullard may start saturday...

i'm torn between lamps/jrod or milner/bullard.

lamps - easy matchup, just broke his goal scoring drought
jrod - cheap and has potential

milner - mid-priced, easy matchup, AND double week next week (although i could just BD him this weekend)
bullard - great player... may start.

what do you guys think?

Big problem.

Everton are losing 4-0 to Benfica which is bound to upset Toffee Dave, but even bigger is that Bilyaletdinov had a collision in the 50th minute, and has now limped off in the 54th.

Saha has just entered the fray, so has just over 1/2 an hour of play.

If Bily doesn't play at the weekend, then it's a nightmare for those like me who had him at 4.71

Watch this space.

My main dilemma this for this weekend (probably shared by many) is whether to bring in Mr Jimmy Bullard. When fit he has proven to be a points machine although Geovanni may take some set piece plays.
My decision is made a little easier as I can do a straight swap for Lennon, decisions, decisions.
This could be Tuncay's week - who does he play for again, lol.

@ GRTR Bily/Blini injured??? WTF I have an all hospital sick list team ready to go and he was about the only healthy guy on it. At 4.71 I'll keep him take the hit and not try to buy him back, he's what 8.5 now or so.

For Ian-Bullard can't be ready to put in a full 90, at best he starts and gets subbed at 60. I had Lennon the last 2 weeks, and even though he returned 10 or so points he still sucked.

For anyone else. Post any Rooney injury updates ASAP please.

thanks

i sat down to watch the second half of the everton benfica match and i could not believe my eyes. i had barely got comfortable when 2 quick goals with bad defending. 5 minutes later another goal followed by a post. i am glad this isn't premier league. everton had no answers in the second half. saha looked good he had a volley that hit the post.

Greginho how bad did Bily looked when he came off the pitch?

he got hit and tried to play, but it was not easy. he limped off with some pain on his face. i am not going to be responsible for everyone keeping him or not. he didn't look comfortable and the next game is a few days away. i think he will miss one at least and i will wait till tomorrow for any further news.

Thanks for the information I will definitely wait for some more official information but thanks for the bird's eye view!

Well i'm off to Mexico on saturday morning for 3 weeks. Good for my tan, terrible for my team :S

I'm going to miss all the barn door action, so i hope west ham and villa are rubbish this weekend and prices dont fly up.

I'm gonna hang on to Bily if he misses one game, so i hope they'll give us some idea of this injury tomorrow.

@Ian: If your joking ha, if not, Tuncay plays for Stoke, and again when I say play I mean warm the bench. Stoke away to Spurs, I don't see Stoke winning this one.
