Injury Update 06/10/09

While we continue to wait for the points from last night (so I can make a start on The Blog Cup results...come on Yahoo!) here's some injury news to keep you going...
There is tremendous news for Man United fans having kittens every time the ball goes near Ben Foster this season - Edwin van der Sar will play for the Reds' reserves tonight against Everton after missing the start of the season with a hand injury.

The Dutchman should be back to face Bolton on October 17 along with Michael Owen, who returned to training with United on Tuesday morning.

Also back in action will be Jimmy Bullard, who has only clocked up a few minutes for Hull because of his knacked knee. He will face Bolton in the Tigers' second string after 251 days on the sidelines.

He is hoping to return to first-team action on October 19 against his old club Fulham, saying: "It would be funny if it turns out to be against Fulham with them being my former club. But that's just the way it is. If it's my old club I make my comeback against, then so be it.

"For me the most important factor will be that I'm back playing again and not who I'm back playing against.

"I'm hoping to get a couple of games under my belt before then. I've got an outing for the reserves planned and it will just be good to go out there, get a bit of fitness back and get used to playing competitive football again.

"I've been in the gym for what feels like forever, but playing football is what I've wanted to do all my life and now I finally can, which is great."

Joe Cole completed 90 minutes for Chelsea's reserves on Monday night on the left side of a midfield diamond, while Serb Nemanja Matic played a deeper role against Arsenal, who gave 90 minutes to Mikael Silvestre as he bids to stay fit.

There have been a couple of international withdrawals today - Clint Dempsey (shoulder) has pulled out of the USA's game with Honduras and Nigel De Jong (ankle) has withdrawn from the latest Dutch squad.

De Jong was one of several Manchester City players to pick up knocks in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa - Kolo Toure needs a scan on his heel while Pablo Zabaleta tweaked his hamstring and could be ruled out for a couple of weeks.

In other news, Stoke City striker Mamady Sidibe has revealed that he will be back in full training next week after missing seven months of action with a knee injury.

And in our regular Birmingham City update: Liam Ridgewell, Lee Carsley and Damien Johnson all completed 90 minutes for the reserves on Monday night, while Marcus Bent played 45 minutes against Portsmouth.
So some interesting news on VDS if anyone is still hanging on to Foster. I don't think Foster is the only one to blame for his dissapointing start. He has made some bad mistakes, but Vidic & Ferdinand have been nowhere near their best, so surely that can't help a 'keeper still finding his feet as a regular starter for a club the size of Manchester United? Or maybe he has simply buckled under the pressure, 'Scott Carson @ Aston Villa' style?

I've also read a couple of pieces of news on Billy & Aquilani today, but I'll leave it to the Original Bloggers to explain those stories to you over on the ever excellent FantasyEPL...

I hope to be back tonight with The Blog Cup 1st Round Results.

Cheers,
AM

I hope Dempsey is declared fit for next match against Hull...ooor NOT...that could mean Gera's spot in starting 11 is a sure thing...I hope so...!!! I'll have one of them in my team and that IS a sure thing...!!!

I don't trust Fulham or Hull, if anything I think it will go the same way as Wigan/Hull, 2-1 for either team.

I can't see how Giggs wouldn't play after the break against Bolton. Hes not playing international anymore so hes getting a very long time to rest. This could mean he gets rusty and doesn't score well or he comes out firing.

Seeing as I missed the BD due to illness I don't have many options but I am satisfied with my current selection. Wish I got in on Fabs though. We got 2 weeks of wait, NO!

Ugh in bed with flu, too much time on my hands and resisting the urge to change my team around.

I scored my personal best of 149 this weekend which was nice.

My team after the barn door is...

Myhill
Verm / Baines / Bridge
Fabs / Benayoun / Bily / Kranjcar / Arshavin
Drogba / Diamanti

I'll be ridding myself of Myhill, Baines and Benayoun, maybe for Given, Heitinga and D Dunn.

If Bily continues to start, Baines won't score a fraction of his usual average, Myhill i will only take at home and Benayoun is falling foul of Rafa's madness again.

I agree with Kellz, Giggs should play after the break, Man U look so shoddy without him!

I'll be interested to see what this Aquillani fella is like, nice and cheap.

not much of a fantasy note as of yet, but still pretty interesting.

Apparently, billionaire Carson Yeung has bought a 90% share in Birmingham City. Basically a takeover. I'm guess we might see some new imports coming during the January window.

@Maxer, can't say too much about most of them. For 4, its tough both get good match-ups. If i had to choose i kind of like RVP but am a little bias.

#6, as long as he is playing, i like Givet vs Burnley, Blackburn only given up 4 at home so far and Burnley hasn't scored in a road game yet. Granted things can always change.

Also think Zhirkov is a toss-up if he will start or not. Granted i think almost every middle but Lampard at Chelsea is a toss-up.

So Robinho back soon, Modric, Aquilani, Bullard (overpriced though?). Some new options again.. but can hardly call these anywhere near below the radar ;)
Wolves manager claiming he has been playing Jarvis too much.. which worsened his case.. which case?

And then the Sullivan dude who was kicked out by Birmingham fans kinda, is in pursuit of West Ham now.. but....
"If Sullivan fails to get West Ham, Norwich, Charlton, Cardiff, Leicester and Ipswich are other possible options."

So much for club love these days from managers.. they sure love their.. (cashs)t(r)eam.
And then they wonder why they get bullied out by the fans?

****.. more disturbing for a lot of us this week..

"PAUL Robinson is facing a race against time to be fit for the first top flight East Lancashire derby for more than 40 years after pulling out of the England reckoning with a hip injury.
Robinson’s hip complaint, first felt after Sunday’s loss at Arsenal, is understood not to be too serious but will provide Rovers boss Sam Allardyce with a headache ahead of Burnley’s visit a week on Sunday."
