UPDATE: Fantastically useful overview on Football365.com
Birmingham (11) v Bolton (17)
Sebastian Larsson, Stephen Carr, Gregory Vignal and Lee Carsley are all available after injury, while Teemu Tainio could return after being ineligible for the midweek Carling Cup clash with Sunderland. Blues boss Alex McLeish has to decide whether to pair Christian Benitez and Garry O'Connor up front.

Bolton midfielder Sean Davis could miss the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery. Manager Gary Megson has no other fresh concerns.

Blackburn (18) v Aston Villa (5)
Boss Sam Allardyce made 10 changes for Rovers' Carling Cup win at Nottingham Forest and, with all those players coming through unscathed, several could come into consideration. Lars Jacobsen is in contention after his wife gave birth, while El-Hadji Diouf will be considered despite an ongoing police investigation into allegations he racially abused a ball-boy at Everton. Gael Givet is a doubt with a knee injury.

Nigel Reo-Coker returns to the Aston Villa squad after a two-game absence following a training ground bust-up with manager Martin O'Neill. Midfielder Steve Sidwell is again ruled out with a thigh strain but winger Ashley Young (calf) and striker Emile Heskey (ankle) are expected to be fit to play.

Last season: Blackburn 0 Aston Villa 2, Aston Villa 3 Blackburn 2

Fulham (14) v Arsenal (7)
Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is likely to make several changes after the Carling Cup loss at Manchester City. Zoltan Gera may retain his place in the starting line-up after scoring the goal which put the Cottagers ahead at Eastlands but Simon Davies suffered a setback from his foot injury in the game and will be unavailable while Erik Nevland, Andrew Johnson (shoulder) and Toni Kallio (Achilles) also miss out.

Arsenal playmaker Andrey Arshavin returns from a groin injury and England winger Theo Walcott has recovered from a side strain - but goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is still troubled by a chest infection so Vito Mannone could continue his place. Denilson (back), Samir Nasri (leg), Lukasz Fabianski (knee) and Johan Djourou (knee) remain sidelined.

Last season: Arsenal 0 Fulham 0, Fulham 1 Arsenal 0

Last five league matches: Fulham W L L W L; Arsenal W W L L W

Top scorers (all competitions): Andrew Johnson & Bobby Zamora (Fulham) 3; Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal) 4

Liverpool (3) v Hull (19)
Defender Andrea Dossena (groin) and midfielder Alberto Aquilani (ankle) are Liverpool's only two absentees, although Aquilani has stepped up his rehabilitation and has started running again. Boss Rafael Benitez reverts to his strongest line-up, having fielded a second-string side in the Carling Cup at Leeds.

Hull defender Anthony Gardner could be back in contention after a knee injury, while Ibrahima Sonko is also available after being cup-tied for the midweek Carling Cup loss to Everton, Jimmy Bullard (knee) is making encouraging progress but is not yet ready to feature while Steven Mouyokolo (hamstring) is still sidelined. Youngsters Tom Cairney and Liam Cooper could play a part after impressing against Everton.

Last season: Hull 1 Liverpool 3, Liverpool 2 Hull 2

Last five league matches: Liverpool W L W W W; Hull L W D L L

Top scorers (all competitions): Fernando Torres (Liverpool) 5; Geovanni & Stephen Hunt (Hull) 2

Portsmouth (20) v Everton (13)
Pompey boss Paul Hart could hand a long-awaited debut to defender Steve Finnan, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury since his move from Espanyol. Hart is still waiting for Papa Bouba Diop and Hermann Hreidarsson to recover from hamstring and foot injuries respectively, while Carling Cup hero Aruna Dindane may not start as he continues his fight for fitness.

Everton boss David Moyes will assess the fitness of striker Ayegbeni Yakubu before making a decision on whether to include him in the squad. The striker, who missed most of last season with a ruptured Achilles, scored in the midweek Carling Cup victory at Hull but came off with a groin problem. Midfielder Steven Pienaar (foot) and defender Joseph Yobo (hamstring) will also have late fitness tests.

Last season: Portsmouth 2 Everton 1, Everton 0 Portsmouth 3

Referee: Alan Wiley (Staffordshire)

Stoke (10) v Man Utd (2)
Stoke strikers Ricardo Fuller and James Beattie are both doubtful. Fuller suffered a groin problem in the Carling Cup victory over Blackpool while Beattie is struggling with a recurrence of an ankle injury. Manager Tony Pulis could recall Richard Cresswell to the attack to partner Dave Kitson.

Tomasz Kuszczak had been hoping to get the nod after keeping a clean sheet against Wolves in the Carling Cup but Ben Foster will return as deputy for Edwin van der Sar, who is out for another three weeks with broken fingers. Plenty of changes are anticipated from midweek, with Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra among those certain to be recalled.

Last season: Stoke 0 Man Utd 1, Man Utd 5 Stoke 0

Last five league matches: Stoke L D W L D; Man Utd L W W W W

Top scorers (all competitions): Dave Kitson (Stoke) 3; Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) 7

Tottenham (6) v Burnley (9)
Tottenham centre-back Sebastien Bassong will have a late fitness test following head and knee injuries. Fellow defenders Ledley King (hamstring) and Jonathan Woodgate (groin) are sidelined but Michael Dawson (Achilles) is available after playing at Preston in midweek. Giovani dos Santos (ankle) joins Luka Modric (fractured fibula) and Roman Pavlyuchenko (Achilles) in the treatment room.

Burnley goalkeeper Brian Jensen should recover from a dead leg in time to reclaim the starting spot from Diego Penny. Striker David Nugent is back in the squad having been cup-tied for the game at Barnsley but club captain Steven Caldwell is not ready to return despite training again after groin trouble and Martin Paterson and Chris McCann are out for three months after sustaining knee injuries this week.

Last season: No corresponding fixture

Top scorers (all competitions): Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) 6; Steven Fletcher (Burnley) 3

Referee: Mike Dean (England)

Wigan (15) v Chelsea (1)
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has hinted he may make changes. Last weekend's 4-0 defeat at Arsenal was the worst performance of the Spaniard's short reign and, with a fully-fit squad at his disposal, a few players could be left out. On-loan Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair is ineligible against his parent club.

Joe Cole and Yury Zhirkov are in Chelsea's squad after overcoming long-term knee injuries. Striker Didier Drogba is fit after a bout of cramp but midfielder Deco (calf) and defender Alex (groin) will miss out.

Last season: Chelsea 2 Wigan 1, Wigan 0 Chelsea 1

Last five league matches: Wigan L L L W L; Chelsea W W W W W

Top scorers (all competitions): Hugo Rodallega (Wigan) 2; Didier Drogba (Chelsea) 5

Referee: Phil Dowd (Staffordshire)

Sunderland (8) v Wolves (12)
Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole could return after missing the last two games with a heel problem. Full-back George McCartney also has a chance of playing after shaking off a hamstring strain, while goalkeeper Marton Fulop could make the squad after five games on the sidelines with his own heel injury.

On-loan defender Michael Mancienne, ineligible to play in the Carling Cup, will return while strikers Kevin Doyle and Andy Keogh are set to start at the expense of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Stefan Maierhofer. Wayne Hennessey replaces Marcus Hahnemann in goal with Greg Halford taking over from Kevin Foley at right-back. Dave Edwards may replace Michael Kightly.

Last season: No corresponding fixture

Last five league matches: Sunderland L W L W L; Wolves W L D L W

Top scorers (all competitions): Darren Bent (Sunderland) 5; Stefan Maierhofer (Wolves) 2

Referee: Lee Mason (Lancashire)

p.s. As you can see, I've added a Quick Chat box on the top right of the blog for people to chat about little issues like "Player A or Player B?"...it should help keep the excellent comments sections clear from too many of these questions.

Cheers,

Agonized about this all week but here goes:

Gordon (?)

I just don't think The Beast is 100%, which he'll have to be to bag points in the expected defeat to Spurs. Gordon seems like a logical replacement, but the way Doyle is playing lately a CS is not guaranteed.

Heitinga, Vermaelen, G. Johnson

Back line is the one thing I'm not grinding my teeth about. GJ must not disappear against Hull or it's time to find a cheaper replacement.

O'Hara, Lennon, Piennar, J. Gomez

Dammit about Piennar's foot. I want him on my side this week, and there's no one else I like but Lennon in that 11-12 range. Not too high on Jordi, either. WHERE IS ROSICKY !!! (moan, moan, moan).

Drogba, Torres, Diamante

Amazed that I can get Torres on my side this week. But should I go with Kuyt and use the difference to get a better midfielder to replace Piennar (I could keep Fabs or MTAY, but not both).

Too many choices but thanks to this blog I have more money to spend. Thanks again. Going away for the weekend so last-minute changes are unlikely (a good thing?). Suggestions welcome as always -- good luck to you all.

Okay I have a similar issue to you as far as Pienaar for mids in his price range I'm looking at Andy Reid or Leo Osman both are looking good of late? I'd watch out for Gomez? He hasn't played well as of late and could be out of the line up this week?

Anonymous said...

Thanks DBU.

With Rodwell in for Pienaar I have room for Arshavin or Giggs. Who has the better chance of starting?

Douchebag United said...

I've heard that Arshavin will play but why not try to get Defoe into your line up for Diamante? You think he is going to score large away from home?

Anonymous said...

@DBU: Maybe not but I got him on the BD and would like to keep him. Just a hunch.

mudwalkerz said...

Im with Bill on the 'goldielocks'.. have him at barndoor also.. and might be a seasonkeeper..depending on his performances especially with Drogs going away in a while and a free striker spot there.

Douchebag United said...

I just thought of another player at that midrandge price of Pienaar and Reid what do you think about Steve Ireland? Could play forward this week?

mudwalkerz said...

Ireland is a doubt with a concussion.

Anonymous said...

Why not SWP??
If your looking for Citeh players,Shaun aint a bad option. You could do worse!

Douchebag United said...

Where ToffeeDave when we need him with Pienaar information!?

Dave said...

Re: Ireland - not only a doubt with that dizziness/concussion business, but he has not played the same YFF-wise as last year. I've watched 3 or 4 City games and he is clearly not getting the same offensive opportunities as previously. Aside from a late goal on opening day, he has not done much of anything - hardly any SOTs, assists, crosses, nothing. Usually good to fill the stats sheet, he is not doing so. I think playing with Ade and Bells and Tevez hurts his fantasy potential. Look at last year - whenever Ade and Arshavin featured in the same line-up, the Russian's points were poor. That said, Ireland is a good player and due to break out soon. But for this week, if you want a City man, SWP might be better.

BTW, can't believe the F365 preview suggests that Cresswell would start ahead of Tuncay! LOL seriously??

Kellz said...

My theory is that Pulis's wife cheated on him with a Turkish pool boy, therefore Pulis has denied Tuncay, the obvious striker, from filling in for Fuller/Beatie and letting a much less talented Cresswell score an amazing -3pts tomorrow against United.

On a real note, this Piennar issue has me really worried since I had him on the BD. Now it seems I can keep Piennar/McCartney/Bassong (also late-fitness test) or drop all of them for THudd/(Heiti or Hutton)/Turner. I was avoiding making a quick decision, however I will watch the home pages for more info. I have a feeling Piennar will be declared fit.

Anonymous said...

Locked in Rodwell and Giggs. My luck and Giggsie will get a rest.

Looks like Toonch will start. Looking forward to this even though I dumped him.

chris said...

@bill: i would reconsider giggs, with a champions league match in midweek he will probably be rested. here is an exert from SAF press conference today.

"The horrible part of being a footballer is that at some stage you are finished with the game — age catches us all. When someone like Ryan is playing at the level he is at, he realises to stay there, he has to prepare himself in the right way. He has to look after himself and do the right things,” explained the boss at his Friday press conference.

Unknown said...

If Pienaar would not make it for the late fitness test, is there any chance that very cheap Billy can make his Prem League debut?

Jamie said...

Will Walcott play tomorrow? He seems really cheap at about 8. Also, anyone know when Adebayors ban will end, looking to get him in after his price fell

Mike Lowrey said...

@Jamie

It's highly unlikely that Walcott is going to play, maybe he'll get some minutes from the bench but that's it. After the U21 champs he made one competitive start in a pre-season game and has been crocked since. He'll start to feature more in a couple of weeks when he regains his fitness.

Adebayors ban will last at least another two games if not more.

chris m said...

@Douchebag-Toffee Dave said in the thread on Everton injuries that follows this that he thinks Pienaar is going to start. Go there and read it

@Mike Lowrey&Jamie

There was an article on 365 about Walcott saying he's REALLY wanting to play. But I think Mike L is right, he gets a run out for 15 minutes at best.

@ the rest of you.....What about Rosicky. Out side of BillytheGrunt above no one is talking about him at all. I second his question-wtf is up with Rosicky. Someone please.

Also I am reading conflicting reports about Richards for Man City. Anyone have any thing concrete.

There are too many damn players this week that a lot of us have or are considering that are subject to the dreaded "late fitness test"-Pienaar, Bassong, Richards, Billy/Blini-that we are all going to go nuts trying to figure it out. I know I am

good luck

velvet underground allstars

mudwalkerz said...

Dropped Pienaar.. might regret it.. might not.. but am staying away from changing anything else. Too much info always and kind of funny those late fitness tests always appear on friday, or late thursday night.. and well not likely to confuse us.. but the "enemy".

Mike B said...

I've just gotten rid of Rosicky, i just don't see him getting much time with Arshavin back to full fitness, and walcott chomping at the bit.

Too many of my team this week were a bit dodgy on the starting status, so unfortunately i've had to change it up alot today.

I've lost Richards, Bassong, Rosicky, and Yakubu from my plans.

And replaced with Heitinga, Baines, Ballack and Eduardo. (I dropped Torres).

Crazy decisions maybe.... but i actually really like the look of my team now that i expect the all to start with the exception of Eduardo..

Douchebag United said...

Chris,

Thanks for the heads up. After reading ToffeeDave I've decided to stay away from Pienaar, I've liked Andy Reid so I place him in my line up, but I really wanted Pienaar for this week. Very tough to call this week. I really think that Pompey might just be very deflated this week and Everton could really take advantage of that this week.

chris m said...

ARRRRRGGGGHHH!!!

I am fried. Enough. I am sticking with Rosicky. I am keeping Richards. So for tomorrow I have.

Given
Verm/Richards/Heitenga
Rosicky/Gomez/Lennon/Rodwell
Drogba/Rooney/Torres

I kept Rosicky because I like him and have him at a discount. 7.96 vs current 9.20.

So big changes are perhaps afoot. This will be fun.

Fidan said...

@ chris m - I'm sure Sicky's price tomorrow after deadline will be around 8.5 (hence what happened to Torres price last week) and that's because many people will drop him for week6. I guess that's how the system works. Sooo, don't let the discount lead you into any choice...but REALLY, he is a class player (for fantasy too), that is as long as he starts...!!!

Fidan said...

I think I have the team for this week, and yes I'm crossing my (20) fingers for this one. What I mean???

Given
Verm,Parnaby,Richards
Lennon,o'H,Reid,Pienaar
Drogs,Torres,Saha

As Moyes said, I'll have a late fitness/start test on Pienaar. If he's not ready then changes are:
Richards --> BAE
Pienaar --> Hunt and
Saha --> Crouch

Any suggestion...!!!

Good luck to everyone...!!!

Mike B said...

Fidan - Be sure Parnaby is going to start, he got a dead leg the other day and i've read conflicting reports on him. I'd like him but i'm shying away (chickening out) due to this.

Max said...

good read AM.. so u think MRichards will play?.. :p

questions: how Bridge and RJohnson in your guys opinion (as a replacement for Richards?).. or is Heiti a better pick?..

Max..

Kellz said...

@Max: I like Bridge, he has been scoring well with CS and Roger Johnson is basiaclly on par with him. Depends on whether you think Citeh or Birmingham can keep the CS, I'd say barring a late penalty go with B'Ham. Heiti is cheaper and affords more for other options but I just have this really odd feeling Pompey will get one, and sooner than later pounce on a team not expecting them to score.

I have found myself in a very big dilema this week and would love to hear some feed back (since I offer as much as I can ;D) My biggest concern is over the Piennar/Bassong late fitness tests. I am almost sure Piennar will be fit and am willing to risk him, however I have a feeling I can do better defensive options if I sell Gerrard who I have at market price. So my thoughts are now:

Gerrard/McCarntey/Bassong or Wilk

OR

A.Reid/Glen Johnson/Bridge

thoughts?

Anonymous said...

bassong will not starting

Anonymous said...

Hmmm...

Geobfree said...

Have Baso, Pienaar,@Crouch, all 3 a risk to start, although Crouch is my funny feeling player. Can be switshed for,Heitinga,,Rodwell,@ Defoe[everbody and his/her mother has him].What to do?

Unknown said...

@Kellz

I'm in the same boat regarding Gerrard. Do I hold onto him (Full price) or drop him and shore up the back-line with "sure-thing" starters? I think I'm leaning towards the latter, and like you picking up G.John in the back. I'll probably also end up sticking with Piennar... there just aren't many other options at his price I like (aside from Reid). I wouldn't bet on G.John having another sub-par week, especially vs Hull. But, same goes for Gerrard - which leaves me a little hesitant to drop him. However, I think that Johnson and friends will be able to make up the difference. I just need to work out who will be joining him =)

Unknown said...

I think I will be going with G.John, Baines, Cahill instead of Richards, R.Johnson, Gerrard. Anyone able to convince me to step away from the ledge?

Kellz said...

@Eric: To Gerrard's credit he had to play in Masch spot during Burnley and yet still scored 19pts. If he had actually scored that game consider it a 30+ week, that would make me sad. However many teams at the top don't have Gerrard in their side and have opted to spread the cash around. For me I doubt Gerrard would put two back to back low scoring weeks. I just think its impossible to score well with my current backline, I might really regret this but I think I am going to drop Gerrard. Good luck, I think Johnson and Baines are great pickups :D

i just changed mtay, rosicky, bent with larsson, lennon, defoe & good news is now i've utilized my all available cash...isnt that a sign of good things coming :)

Its ok to ask about the health status etc of a player but this or this or that player..and everyone asking the same.. its tiring and starting to be a flood. Anyway, good luck everyone and follow your guts.

Mike B said...

Agreed Mudwalker, if you want to make a quick post saying for example, "Lennon or Ballack????", go on the excellent chat feature that's been added, which i have been using for quick opinions and such.

Or at least put a little more effort into the post that 3 words and a ton of punctuation marks.

Mike B said...

Ok lots of changes for me this week. Fingers crossed it doesn't backfire!

Verm - Heitinga - Baines

Fabregas - Benayoun - Lennon - Hunch

Drogba - Hunch - Hunch

It's certainly going to be an exciting week guys, i'm sure most of us have found this selection the most difficult so far this season. I sense alot of people, like myself, are starting to be a little more bold with our selections too.

Good luck everyone!

Thoughts for my missing midfielder?

S. Given
T. Vermaelen
M. Skrtel
G. Johnson

N. Milijas
Jordi Gómez
S. Gerrard
---------- 10.06

D. Drogba
Tuncay
J. Defoe

I just got defo in, so could swap out defo and have 23 odd for two players. Thoughts... please....

Ruki said...

Gomez had hard time playing vs stronger opponents so I wouldnt want him in my midfield. Milijas was the reason I did pretty bad compare to others in the last 2 weeks so I dont want him in either.
For their replacement, there are plenty of cheap with good match up midfield this week. Ohara/Rodwell/Spur midfield and the like.

robmcm said...

I got them at 5.60 both, so it's hard to replace them. They normally return 5. At the moment I have Balack in there, but not sure if that's the right player...

Ruki said...

Sometimes its better if you let go your discount, especially those low discount and inconsistent performance. But I leave that to your decisions. 15 min till deadline, good luck to you.

robmcm said...

If I get O'Hara and Rodwell I have 10.48, still got a choice of who to bring in for that value. Unless you think I should try and get a striker for that?

Thanks Ruki, appreciate it!
